So, I am currently both a British and Irish citizen living in Northern Ireland. I am seeking to bring over my long distance American girlfriend to live in Ireland. (We plan to marry in the US before her coming to stay here).
I have been working self employed (as a Barrister) for the past couple of years and therefore don't meet the UK financial requirements for a spouse.
BUT my understanding is if I were to move to the Republic of Ireland and live and work my then wife will be able to come to Ireland. Inform them of her intention to join me, meet at the Garda station and be given a stamp 4. Without me needing to meet any financial requirements.
Is this right or wrong?
Because I've seen an amount thrown around but was informed they don't apply it for non-visa requiring countries like America.
(Also, I was told the EU Treaty rights thing wouldn't work because I have Irish citizenship, is this right?)
I would also love to know a more concrete answer to this question. American here, partner is Irish national. We're both poor 🙁 but wouldn't need financial aid.

I've chatted with many people over the years on this site on this particular topic, and I don't ever recall a mention of financial requirements for Stamp 4. Have you read this post on the site on the topic? It's worth reading, however I'll caution that some of the process may have changed in the last year or so, so not all may be applicable today.
I'd love if you can come back and update us with how your applications go. New/current info is great to have from people with first hand experience.

Thanks for the reply! I have read through that thread, Kelsey's info was just about invaluable. Nobody really mentioned the finance thing that I saw? so just needed to double check. Hopefully it hasn't changed, and won't change anytime soon! My move is planned for around a year from now, so just trying to work out what I need to set in motion now. When the time comes I'll definitely update y'all with my process, gotta pay it forward!
