Hi All,

My husband who is a US citizen will be moving to Ireland in the next couple of months to live with me (irish citizen) . In order for him to register, get a stamp 4 and GNIB card it says that we must have proof of place of residence. I'm wondering if my lease will be sufficient or is it necessary to have his name added to the lease before he even enters the country.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Danielle,

Yes, he will need proof of address too. Your name won't work on it's own. The lease would be ideal, but if you'd prefer to keep his name off the lease, then a utility bill in his name (both is good too) should suffice. Make it a something that is tied to the house though e.g. an electric bill, internet bill etc, as opposed to something like a mobile phone bill.

Hi Liam,

thank you so much for your response. I have asked my landlord and I am having lots of trouble getting his put on the lease. They asked for a copy of my marriage certificate which is showed them and still have yet to give me an answer so I'm hoping to have another option (utility bill) so we can move forward with our moving plans. I hope an internet bill will suffice.

Thanks again!
