Hello everyone,

I just moved to Dublin a week ago, absolutely love it! However I'm facing a small problem - my partner's visa. Please let me explain -  we are both New Zealand citizens , we lived in Portugal for 6 months (on critical skills visa) and now I'm in Dublin for work but he's still in Portugal. We were going to apply for de facto preclearance but we were told we couldn't provide proof of cohabitation, as when I moved in with him he was already on the lease for long time and utilities were set up already. I  only have bank statements with the same address from May 2019... The only other evidence is invoices to my name and address. Any ideas on what alternatives would be accepted?

Alternatively we're also considering stamp 0 but immigration agency told us it's very difficult to get and can take 6 months, even people with annual salary 100k wouldn't necessarily get it. Is this true? What should we look out for when lodging his application?

He's looking at jobs but that takes time and then waiting for his work visa also takes time, so really looking for the quickest way to get him into Ireland legally.

Sorry for the long post, I came across this forum while searching for possibility. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Amy  @skyxnight

Sorry to hear of the situation you find yourself in.

A stamp 0 probably isnt the route your partner wants to take. For one, it's temporary, and he cannot work.

Have you reviewed all the evidence that is accepted for De Facto? There are a lot of things you can provide. Everything you can gather that's on this list is best

Let us know how things turn out. I wish you both success

Hi Liam @moveclubadmin,

Thanks for your prompt reply! We were looking at stamp 0 because it's temporary for 1 year. We just need that 1 year until we can "officially" proof that we have 2 yrs of cohabitation. Do you know if we can use stamp 0 for this purpose?

Many thanks for taking time reading this.

@skyxnight I don't know the answer to that. Reach out to both immigration depts would be my suggestion. There are email addresses listed for each visa type.

Unfortunately, in the past when I have asked very direct questions like your one, the response is often very vague. They either don't know, or there isn't anything officially written down in the regulations that applies. Still worth asking. You would think that it should qualify. Living together = living together. Immigration status shouldn't really come into it, but that's just my opinion 🙂 I hope that's the case.
