We run our families' company and are looking to open an Irish branch and then submit our work permits through the company. We have a meeting with an attorney this week and are wondering if anyone has done this process? Are there any specific questions/pitfalls you'd advise we bring up with the attorney. Thanks so much!

Hi - hoping someone may have some insights. . . I am moving to Ireland with my husband next spring. He is an Irish citizen, I am American. He has not lived in Ireland for many years so we will basically be starting fresh once we arrive.

I am a small business owner here in the states and would love to continue that work once we are in Ireland. Because of the way I am immigrating, many of the “foreigners wanting to move to Ireland and start a business” details I find online don’t apply to me.

Has anyone else done this or have any guidance? I suppose I could have him open the business, but it’s my baby, and I’d love to do it myself if possible. ☺️
I’d love to get started right away as building up a business takes time and I would like this to be my source of income, so don’t want to wait until I can finally apply for citizenship myself.

So grateful for any pointers, links, or insights from this super helpful community. ❤️

Hi everyone,

Is there an accountant (or similar expert, or website) you'd recommend to give me an advice session (possibly one-off, possibly for longer term relationship, I'd pay for it either way) on US - Ireland tax considerations for a working-in-Ireland American?

I'm a US Citizen in a "critical skills" occupation. My wife is too. I'm considering pursuing some Ireland-based employment opportunities, but want to get a good picture of what I'd be in for tax-wise. The general hypothetical scenario is I'd be working for an Irish firm on the appropriate employment-based visa for two years or more, Irish wages paid in Euros, then maybe stay (with or without original employer, maybe continue working, maybe retire early). I have 8 years til retirement give or take. So throughout those years I'd want to know what my tax situation would be for my Irish wages and some "passive" income from US sources (mutual funds, possible sale of Pacific NW home), plus how my American 401k/IRA would be treated before and after I retire if we kept living in Ireland.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated! For US only tax questions, I've used "justanswer.com" in the past (you pay by the question) and found they were very accurate... in this case I'd be fine working with an individual, a firm, or a web service with the right expertise.

Thank you,

Hi all! I'll be arriving in Ireland next Tuesday(11/2) as a Stamp 0 "approvee". I can't wait! I fly into Dublin via Aer Lingus and I'll be bringing my dog (blk lab). Due to the airline's pet travel requirements, I'm using an extra large dog kennel. It's huge (48"L x 32"W x 35"H) and is intended for dogs who weigh 90-120lbs. Mine is 55lbs. In any case, I doubt the kennel will fit into the rental car along with my luggage and dog for our trek to the west coast. Is there anyone in the group (or maybe you know of someone or an organization) who could use an XL kennel? I doubt I'll even use the kennel once we get settled since my dog is 10 years old, so I'd be willing to part with it if you're able to pick up in Dublin. If you're interested of have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

I am a dual Irish/US citizen. I have lived/worked in the US for most of my career. I attempted to move to IRE right before the pandemic (so own property, vehicle, have Irish driver's license and PPS #), returned to US and got caught in pandemic lockdowns.

Took job in US while stuck here, but now would like to finalize becoming full time resident in Ireland. However, I like my US employer and they are willing to continue employing me remotely from Ireland.

How might that work? I understand there are treaties between the two countries to avoid double taxation and to pay social security benefits once eligible for it. Curious how the practicalities would work - ie: would my pay continue to go to my US bank account, be transferred to IRE bank account, then I would somehow report/pay taxes to IRE? Do I need to set up as a "self-employed" business in IRE? Are there businesses in IRE that I would need to work for who act as a middleman for tax purposes?

Thanks in advance for advice from anyone who have had experience with this situation.
