I'm from Northern Ireland and have been living in Florida for 14 years. I'm a dual citizen (Irish/American) and also have a British passport since i'm from the North. My American husband and I go home to Ireland once or twice a year. My whole family is still in Ireland and we are hoping to relocate back home in about 2 years time. We have the option of going to the North or the Republic but immigration seems a lot easier in the south. We're hoping to maybe move to the Dundalk or Drogheda area's, so we are just a train or bus in either direction to Belfast or Dublin. Would love to live in Dublin as it's one of our favourite cities but will be out of our pricepoint.
My one main question is, "my husband travels a lot for work and i just want to make sure that if he got the Stamp 4 after we move, is he free to travel back to the US or to other countries (wherever his work takes him)?"

Hi all, I live in the UK near the very busy and noisy Heathrow. I have been going to Ireland almost every year since I was 14 (for the past 45 years in fact) for the fishing festivals. Circumstances, and wishing to get away to a more quiet lifestyle, means I plan to move over to Ireland over the next couple of years. Looking to find a small holding with bungalow in the Lakeland region. It will be quite an adventure but have to wait until property is sold here first in the autumn. Thanks for the topics on this site, all very interesting. Going over in May and September for fishing this year and can't wait to get away from this stifling office to the open spaces of the emerald isle! Once I get going with the move, probably next springtime, I will blog my progress. Cheers for now.

As of now there is no travel restriction. As a resident in Ireland however, there are x number of days that you must be in the country. i.e. it must be your primary place of residence.

My husband and I have been gone from Ireland since 1989; 8 years in the UK and over 20 in the US (CT and then New Jersey). We have two boys 9 and 6 years old and too many cats.
We are likely moving home in late Summer (we're not sure if we are crazy or not, we have lived more years outside Ireland than in). Not all the details are finalised yet so it's not a done deal, but it's inching closer.

Yes we will pay close attention to the residency requirement. My husband is self employed, so we will have to look into getting him incorporated in Ireland.
Hello all --
I met my husband in college in Ireland 19 years ago. Lived there a little when we got married, but have been in the US for 16 years.
We are looking to move back this year with our 15 year old son, and 10 year old daughter. Our daughter has autism, with significant special education needs - so that has been a big topic of research. But at the moment we are waiting to hear back from secondary schools about getting our big kid a place in school.
We'll be in Dublin for the first few years, but hoping to eventually settle someplace in the countryside. Maybe Clare? Galway?
