Hello!

My name is Megan and my husband, myself, and our three young children (oldest is 6), two dogs, and cat will be moving to the Shannon area in the next six months. My husband works for the U.S. government and we are moving for his job. A lot of the logistics for our move will be handled by the government, but I'm hoping to learn more about living in Ireland generally through this site. I did live in Scotland for about 8 months when I was in college so I feel I have a pretty good sense of what Ireland will be like, though there will certainly be differences. We are very excited about this opportunity to experience a wonderful place like Ireland. Happy to be here!

Megan

My name is Deirdre and I'll be moving to Ireland soon. (very soon!) I have been traveling to Ireland since I was a very young child - my parents emigrated to Canada/US in the 50s. But this will be the first time I am living there permanently. I have many relations and know the country well, but still have lots of questions so I am happy to find this resource.

Great to have you here @deirdre

Looking forward to hear from you as questions come up and your move progresses. Is this on temporary hold now due to Covid-19?

Greetings, Ireland Move community!  We're a retired couple researching a move from the USA to Ireland to live close to our beloved son and daughter-in-law.  They met in Galway for foreign study (she is a French citizen), fell in love, married (in the US) and returned to settle in Galway in 2019.  They intend to make Ireland their home long-term - and since they are our "only kids," we want to join them for the next chapter in their (and our) lives.  We visited Ireland for the first time last April (a wonderful introduction to western Ireland!) and look forward to another visit once the travel restrictions lift.  While we anticipate delays due to recent events, we are digging deep into planning.  We appreciate the resources and community offered by The Ireland Move Club as we start this journey to be reunited with our family.  Thank you!

Hi Kristin and Rob

Good to hear from you. Actually your story is not an uncommon one on here. Lot's of folks have expressed interest in getting closer to their kids/grandkids.

Great to have you, and I hope you can find plenty of answers here as things start to take shape for you.

Best wishes,

Liam

Hello, I'm new to the group and glad I found it. I'm a retiree who wants to spend at least a year in Ireland. I hope to apply for a Stamp 0 in the fall. I was told not to apply until 2 months before I planned on going to Ireland. I was wondering whether there is a list of accountants in Ireland with their fees listed that review  financial information. Also, I've seen that the requirement for retirees is 50k. Can this be a combination of pension and Thrift Savings Plan (U.S. federal government equivalent to a 401k)?This is what I live off now and the TSP is easily accessed for funds (unlike say a CD).  I do not plan to take Social Security for another 3 years. I plan on renting in the Galway area.

Hello all. So glad I found this community, it will certainly offer additional assistance to us in our quest to retire in Ireland. This will take place as soon as we sell our farm in Ontario Canada..... anyone looking for a small holding :>)  We traveled to Ireland approximately 1 year ago and fell in love with the people and the culture and we are so motivated for the move.

I am planning to move to Ireland next spring, hoping that the virus allows us to leave the US.  I am retired and looking to move to Wexford County.  I worked in Europe for a number of years and love traveling and exploring new places.   I will be moving with two dogs.  I have traveled extensively in Europe with one of my dogs as she is a service dog, so I am very familiar with the paperwork and procedures to take the dogs with me.  My son-in-law was born and raised in Dublin, but now lives in California.  He has a sister that lives there, so there is some extended family and I can tap into insight from natives, but I am so glad to find this site as you all are going thru the same trials and tribulations I will be going thru.  I have learned a ton already from this site and hope to learn more.

Liam,

We are recently arrived on our sailboat and have been putting together a Stamp 0 application while in quarantine. This has been a useful site to start getting it together. Especially interested in learning how the application process works inthe time of Covid.

Hi Evans,

Arrived in style 🙂 That's great! Which port did you sail into?

It's been a little quiet of late on here with regard to Stamp 0 applications. I'm sure the pandemic has greatly influenced that. We'd love to hear from you as you progress through the application process. Please keep us updated. I'm glad to hear you have found useful information on here.

I'm dropping a couple of links below with posts/articles tagged with 'stamp 0' as a useful way to find past info. Keep in mind, not all of it may be current as of now.
