Hello! 

My name is Lily and my husband and I are beginning to plan a move to Ireland from Chicago IL. We are at the very beginning of this process and looking for all kinds of information!

My husband was born here in America but his mother was born in Ireland so I believe this qualifies him for citizenship. We're looking for information on what I would need to do as his spouse to move to Ireland with him and what we would need to do for our Son. 

To further complicate matters, we'd like to bring my parents with us. My mother has great-grandparents from Ireland but as no one in the intervening years has applied for foreign born status, she's out of luck in terms of automatic citizenship. 

What would the process look like to bring my parents over from America with us? 

Any information you can provide is so greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

I'm originally from Waterford and have lived in the Uk for nearly 30yrs, and my wife is Aylesbury born and bred.

Hi my name is Pam and along with my hubby Martyn we are looking at retiring soon I'm 57 and he has reached his 60th ,it's always been a dream of ours to buy something rural with a smalll piece of land for growing our own fruit and veg and have some chickens to add to our family of 3 dogs. We have looked at Wales but Ireland seems more affordable and more relaxing . Our only reservation is the heath service in Ireland , we are both active but have ongoing illnesses that need prescription drugs every month. I've tried to research how much this will cost but it all seems very confusing. We don't mind paying it's just trying to work out how much it will set us back for medical insurance and paying for prescriptions. Apart from that I'm looking forward to returning to my roots my maternal grandfather came from Drogheda originally. Thank you for accepting me and I'll apologise now for all the boring questions I will be asking.

Hi Pam - you might want to start exploring options on the various health insurance company websites in Ireland e.g. BUPA, VHI, avivia etc. Also, HIA.ie is a wonderful, impartial service, for comparing your options. 

Hello,  My wife and I are seriously thinking on relocating to Ireland from the U.S.A.  We are in our 70's and retired.  We would not need employment but are interested in where we should relocate to purchase a home.  We can afford a home priced between $90K to 150K U.S. currency. We have visited Ireland twice but have only been in the lower counties.  Do you have any suggestions?

Hello, dear compatriots. I have my dual Irish citizenship and passport so don’t have to concern myself with visas and the like. I will be relocating in the coming months from the US. I don't expect, but not certain, that I will end up permanently residing in Ireland. I have a budget that is better suited for less economically robust countries. However I know there are official/legal issues I must work out prior to living elsewhere in the EU. For instance, banking and financial representation. Also, medical health affiliations and associated documents and cards (I depend on a medication after having my thyroid removed). Must I have established residence prior to gaining access to these services? Anything I can accomplish before I set out abroad? Anything any one could contribute to answering would be greatly appreciated. Or point me in the right direction?

I plan on a month (is that sufficient?) in Dublin (or is another city ok for getting things done?) before setting out to explore other EU options. If I feel at home in Eire perhaps I’ll stay put! I’m an artist and perhaps ‘The Dole’ would be an enticement. Thanks
