Finding a baby mattress that fits USA crib
The latest discovery of mine is a little oddity about crib mattress sizes. We shipped our baby crib to Ireland when we were moving, but never considered the fact that a mattress for it might not be available in Ireland. The crib is a standard American size (approx 130cm X 66cm), but the baby mattresses in Ireland seem to be available in different dimensions. The 2 common sizes I'm finding are 140 X 69 and 120 X 60. Neither a good fit.
Rather than settle for a mattress that was too small, which would require us to stuff the empty space with blankets, I did a little calling around yesterday. It didn't take long to find a couple of places here in Cork that will make a mattress to your desired size. I spoke to a guy at Swan Beds (swanbeds.ie), and he said they could make the mattress almost exactly to my required measurements. The only drawback was a 3 week wait! He recommended I try Barbers (a local bike any baby shop) for odd size mattresses. They have a Mama's and Papa's baby mattress on order that is almost an exact fit (127 X 63 cm), that I think will work.
If you're bring your own baby crib/cot...
I suggest if you're bringing your own crib with you when you move to Ireland, and it's not a common size here, that you either bring a mattress that you know fits, or start looking ahead of time for a place that can make one for you.

One point is that the US is working in ft and inches where as most of the rest of the world has converted to Metric.
Its not just cots that come in different sizes than the US, beds in general are given different names and sizes.
