Hi All, I've lived in the US for 26 years. My family and I are moving back to Ireland sometime in September 2017.

House is under contract "Sold", We'll miss it. Getting a 40ft container, A 20 footer  wouldn't do it. $1,000 more by the way.

I applied for my US Citizenship in December of 2016. I got my interview notice for the end of August 2017. I've seen questions about getting  US citizenship before moving back.  What are the Pro's and Con's? Should or shouldn't I will the timing work out for me anyway.?

Starting to write my resignation letter for the Company I've worked for over 20 years, Arg.

looking to call BOI Soon to set up an account, so I can somehow transfer money etc.

Lot's to do as you know.

Looking forward to not saying "good bye" to my Irish family any more!

On to another adventure back home. I guess I got my wish of finding a story to tell after all. Time to work on the next chapter. Of course theirs more to the story. For brevity this it for now.

Hi my name is Becky and my husband and I are researching and planning a 6 month visit to Ireland in June 2019.  I know there are a lot of restrictions on visitors for that length of time and could really use help.  My husband is a naturalized Irish citizen, getting his citizenship thru his paternal grandmother who was born and raised outside of Dunmanway, County Cork.  We have visited Ireland 3 times, 2009, 2010, and 2015.

I would greatly appreciate any direction to sites, forums, or blogs that could help us with our plans.   We can not wait to enjoy and explore Ireland and get to know the wonderful Irish people.

Hello everyone!

So glad I found this site!  My name is Mary and I am a recent college graduate from NY, US and plan on moving to Ireland within the next 5-6 years.  I am about to start the citizenship process through the immigration center in NYC.  My paternal grandparents were from County Clare (Kilshanny and Kilfenora) and went back and forth from the States to Ireland when my father and his siblings were younger, but ended up in the States in the end.  I have been to Ireland a couple times and realized that Ireland is what I was missing my whole life!  I will definitely be visiting again before I purchase anything......heck maybe I'll check out Lisdoonvarna in September? 🙂

Slainte!

Hi Patrick - welcome to the site. I hope we can be of help to you as your planning and settling in back home takes shape.

Hi Becky - Citizensinformation.ie is a great source for people in your situation. I'd definitely recommend exploring its content. If your husband gets an Irish passport ahead of time he will not need a visa.  You will however. The longest you can stay as a visitor is 90 days.

Liam,  Will I be able to get permission to stay for the full 6 months?   We

will not be taking up permanent residency just visiting for that amount of

time.   Thanks for your help.    B.

Becky,

I can't answer that with certainty, as each immigration case is treated on a case by case basis. You will most likely need to go the route of Stamp 4 application.

Hello Everyone and Liam,

like most of your subscribers have pointed out this forum has been an excellent source of information. My husband and I are in the process of making the move to Ireland. His maternal grandparents were both from Ireland, so we are aiming to make the move based on Irish Heritage. I am in the process of doing some genealogy and applying for citizenship?

I am also reading the resources pages, forums, etc. We are coming from One island (Big Island of Hawaii) to quite a different island. I have quite a lot of reading to do in preparation, but looking forward it.

For now, I am interested in the weather. We are looking to live in Western Ireland, along the Wild Atlantic Coast...most resembling my current island home.

Thanks again. Look forward to learning more about Ireland.

Tami
