I've lived alone / paid my own mortgage for the last 10 years. When I move to Dublin and look for a flat, what do I do for tenant references?

Possibly a question for UK mortgage/loan brokers I'd say Michelle. I'm personally unaware of any, and your question hasn't come up here before.

Hi Dinah, There's good and bad to hiring a removal company. In the case of heavy furniture etc, it's almost a must, IMO. However, this site is for people moving to Ireland, and offering advice specifically for that. You might find one that is geared specifically to UK movers out there too.

I understand the independent means requirement that each person (my wife and I) must have a passive source of income to the amount of 50K Euros per year. However, I have recently been told that each one of us must have a lump sum of cash equal to the average price of a House in Ireland (250k euros). I had previously been told that we would meet the lump sum requirement if we jointly owned a House worth 250k Euros. does anyone have any experience on this issue? Any advice greatly appreciated as we cannot meet the requirement if we both have to have $250K Euro cash/house availability.

Hi David, Not so sure about the need to rent for 6 months. I would definitely check all the banks before going down that route. Maybe one or 2 may be willing to lend to you if they look favourably on your financial history elsewhere in the EU. You might also WAnt to try a broker or 2 for that purpose. You may be surprised with your number or responses, but in my own personal experience it's the norm. Estate agents are notoriously difficult to deal with and get hold of in Ireland. hi! i am just back from 2 weeks in ireland with my husband. we looked into a few things for our move in between visiting everyone. i WAs wondering if anyone here bought a House to move to, or are you just renting? i learned that daft.ie doesn't have many rentals listed and that it really helps to know people and ask around. they seem to rent quick (in our village, anyway). we really WAnted to buy a House, but it seems renting for a year is just easier to do (that means moving twice). any suggestions? also, we tried to open a bank account while we were there. ...
