Carol, thanks for posting that update. It is also important to ask the immigration officer at the port of entry for as long a visitor stamp as possible. Having time on your side to get everything in Order before you must register with GNIB will make life a whole lot less stressful. They should understand that it'll take a while to gather the paperwork needed, so discuss that with them if possible at the airport, before they stamp your passport.

... regular national/state school and will be learning Irish, are they required to learn any other languages? If so, are the choices limited? From my own experience growing up in the states, I wish that a second language WAs more prominent in the curriculum. Only Spanish and French were offered in the area I grew up in and it WAs only required for 2 years in high school. So I can really only Order food or ask for directions, haha!

Yes, my entire family is American; however, my mother's side of the family came from Italy. Italy allows citizenship to be recognized through jure sanguinis "by blood" going back even a few generations. My great grandfather came to America from Italy in 1920 and since he WAs born after 1861 (when Italy became a unified country) he WAs able to pass on his citizenship. If my grandmother WAs born after he renounced his Italian citizenship by becoming naturalized, I would not be able to have Italian citizenship. It's been a long 3 year process getting all of t ...

What worries you about moving to Ireland?

I thought of another worry - well more just question. I have celiac so I am always on the lookout for good gluten-free/wheat-free products. I am slightly concerned I may not be able to find as many items as I am able to here in the States. Are gluten-free items mostly available at the larger grocers like Tesco, or are there other specialty stores that carry them? Typically the larger grocers increase the prices a lot, so I tend to Order my gluten-free items from Trader Joes or World Market. Just hoping to find some good alternatives or even local bakeries that specialize in gluten-free products.

... what worries me, what confuses me and how to go about job hunting 🙂 We are planning a move to Dublin next summer (probably August) and our biggest question right now is how easy it will be for my husband to get a job permit and a job. We are both currently employed but expect that it will be easier for him to get a job in Dublin while it might take longer for me. He is a solutions architect for a telecom company and has over ten years experience. I recently switched careers from nonprofit fundraising to public health. I graduated with a masters of public ...
