... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation.
About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...
Were those the standard square pallets or the long rectangular ones? How do you figure the space you used would compare to a 20 foot shipping container? (5.598mx2.325mx2.39m / 19'4"x7"8'x7'10" Interior dimensions)
I am still trying to find an agent that will handle a self-owned container. I am finding that moving companies only offer the option of using their container - loaded/unloaded by them or self-loaded/unloaded. In the latter case they typically allow 2h for the container to be loaded after which it is $85-100 per hour. No ramp or lift is provided so that option would require having this in place when the trailer arrives.
The other option is to find a shipping agent that will handle pick-up, transport and drop-off of the container but that is proving difficult so I don't have any quotes yet to compare the cost of this option vs using movers with their own container. The Total cost will include the price of the container and a crane to load the container on to the trailer at the time of pick-up. I can purchase a 20' container for $2750 including delivery and the seaworthy certificate. The crane will cost about $500-$750 depending on the Total time required (they charge for the time from departure to return of the crane to their yard - which in my case will be between 2h-3h).
I would welcome any suggestions for shipping agents that would be willing to handle a non-commercial container shipping job.
Best regards,
John
... to find an international freight company that would accommodate our personally-owned, self-loaded container.
We found Aaltonen international Moving and Storage here in Cork to shepherd our container off the ship, through customs, and to the farm. Working with Kim McEvoy of Aaltonen has been a joy.
In the US, we worked with Sky2C to arrange container pick-up, delivery to port, and transport via container ship. I submitted multiple requests for quotes to international shipping companies in May - lousy time - and they were the only company who responded. I ...
Hi New boy here.
We are from UK but have been living in France for six years.
We are looking to move to Ireland as soon as we can arrange somewhere to live.
Income derives from a Ltd company based in UK which also operates in Ireland.
We will need a mortgage to purchase a property in Ireland ans as we have no history we have been told that we will need to rent a house for at least 6 months to qualify for the mortgage, so I have been looking at lots of potential properties on line and have sent a Total of 23 emails to various estate agents. Total responses? 3.
If I ask for information we just get told "everything we have is on the website. Come in to the office to discuss it" even though we are in a different country.
We have pets and we are looking for a property that is not on a busy road but if we ask about finding the house on Google maps it os "sorry, we can't help you with that, we may have some properties that would be suitable come into the office. They will not accept the fact that I am not going to spend days travelling on the off chance they might have something suitable. I am perfectly happy to travel to see something that I know is suitable beforehand.
This is not a dig at Irish estate agents, French agents are even worse and charge more.
So, anyone know of a house (min 3 beds/baths detached) in a quiet and secluded location, anywhere in Ireland that is to let for 6 months to a year that will accept pets.
Budget 800-1500 a month and happy to pay 6 months up front.
If the house turns out to be for sale at the end of the rental period that would be perfect, budget 250,000 - 350,000. It would save moving again.
Sorry for the long winded rant but getting very frustrated.
Hi all,
My family and I are moving back to Ireland imminently. Last minute planning here! could some advise of the following:
- will my US grill be ok to use in Ireland? i think i heard people say that propane tank fittings are different in ireland and thus makes no sense to bring a US one back to ireland? has anyone any experience or is there any Type of adaptor device to transition to Ireland?
- is there any value in bring back any Type of small US electrical equipment? i know computers can be changed/dual use 110v-240v so things like that might be ok...but what about just very small kitchen electrics that might be useful (small oven / coffee machine etc etc?) - i am not talking about fridges etc etc.
- garden tools powered by battery...saws/edge clippers/shrub clippers Type thing...anyone any experience of bringing those things to ireland and being able to charge them whilst there?
thanks for any advice anyone can offer..
Kieran
... only 90 days there. By the WAy, I have even tried to get clarity on the non-visa U.S. visitation limit of 90 days (is it 90 days at a time, or is it 90 days Total for the year?) thinking perhaps I won't need one if I travel regularly back and forth between my U.S. home and my Irish home (current completion est. of 2022) -- but I have not been able to get clarity on that either.
... a 12-hour journey across the Atlantic. I thus broke up travel plans, as follows:
Domestic: United Airlines charged $125 pet fee to book flight, nonstop, from SMF>EWR. Motel 6 offers pet-friendly lodging near EWR.
International: Delta booked my cat, in-cabin, and provided dimensions for pet carrier as required for the air CRAFT Type. I returned to my reservations and found NOTHING about my cat, etc. When I called Delta, a note had been added to my reservation that NO IN-CABIN travel allowed for my cat. Cancelled entire reservation, with promise to write ...

I thought I'd provide a copy of an email I received today about since it reflects the possible cost for assistance with preparing/confirming financial information for the Stamp 0 application. I know Quintas has been mentioned in previous posts, but thought I'd provide their reply since it's current, especially the fees and contact information.
I do have another request for service information and fees out to James O'Donovan of O’Donovan Lavin Accountants and will post any information that he provides.
I hope the following is helpful.
Thank you!
My name is Adam McCarthy and I work in the Quintas tax department with Dave O’Brien. In order to prepare a financial verification pack we require the following documentation:
Evidence of all finances available (i.e. last six months of bank statements, savings account statements, payslips, pension valuation, investment portfolios etc.) – This is to prove that you earn more than €50,000 per annum. Scanned copies of these will suffice.
Evidence that you have access to a large sum of money to cover any major unforeseen expenses (typically the cost of a dwelling in the state) – This can be in the form of a property valuation or an investment that can be easily liquidated (if it is an investment then we will need confirmation that you have immediate access to the funds)
Spreadsheet showing projected income in Ireland and expenditure on a monthly basis
2 photo ID and 2 documents showing proof of address (e.g. utility bill) notarized by a local official – the reason I need this is that we probably won’t meet in person
If you are unsure about whether a particular source of income or funds is allowable just send us the documents and we can verify if it will qualify.
The standard fee for this is €500 and can be broken down as follows:
Request of information - €50
Review of documentation - €150
Review of Stamp 0 conditions to ensure qualification - €100
Letter of verification of income & finances available - €200
If however the work required is more extensive, then our fee will reflect this.
As you intend on moving to Ireland next year the financial verification would need to take place around the time you intend to apply for the Stamp 0 cert so there is no need rush with this process at present.
Should you have any questions in relation to any of the above please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Adam

... etc) hire people this WAy. I'm imagining there are online groups where these people connect and share experiences etc. I understand there are plenty of non-tech Type occupations on the list, but using those just as an example.
For the benefit of all, sharing a link to the Critical Skills occupation list here.
