This is a rather random question but... Is the Irish grading scale a bit different than Stateside? I'm seeing my daughter's class achieving "high scores" in the upper 70s/80s. Stateside we would hope to see 90s-100 as that would translate into an "A". It's only now occurred to me that it may be different? Or, my daughter and her classmates are a bunch of slackers haha.

It is different. You can sleep easy knowing your daughter is doing well 🙂

I remember when I first went to the states and it was all about A's and B's. I was almost embarrassed to mention that I got plenty of C's.

If you look at the Leaving Cert grading system (and points), you would qualify for a whole host of college courses with a score of 400 (highest = 600). That's an average of a C2 I think. That would get you into most engineering/science courses, but definitely exclude you from the likes of medicine/law/accountancy etc.

To consistently get A's is pretty rare. At the risk of being hounded by other irish parents, I'd even say it's also not too often expected.

Thank you!!! That is reassuring. It's a delicate balance of not pressuring a child who is already fragile and adjusting while also not wanting her to become complacent and slip from her previous rankings.
