My husband and I are moving to Dublin in a few weeks! We have a short-term apartment lined up and are currently looking for employment. I have dual Irish/US citizenship, and my husband has dual Italian/US citizenship. I know we both will need to register for PPS cards once we arrive - is there anything else we should be aware of? Your post on drivers licenses was helpful - looks like we will need to go through the whole process... We will begin looking into health insurance options once we arrive - is it typical for employers to offer insurance as a benefit in Ireland as they often do in the US?

Any resources on employment with organisations that promote local agriculture?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi Megan,
Yes it is common for irish employers to offer health insurance. There may be a contingency such as length of employment, whether it's a permanent role or not, etc. Also, the medical insurers have some pretty strict rules on when you are eligible for coverage after sign up. You maybe excluded from many coverages for up to a year.

Not sure what you mean by "employment with organisations that promote local agriculture". Can you expand?

Liam

Thank you, Liam!
Another question - since we both have EU citizenship we will not need work permits, but is there anything we might need that we don't yet know about?

The employment question about agriculture - do you know of any groups that run farmers markets or help promote locally grown food? In the US we have "Good Food Jobs" and other websites that pull together jobs in the local/sustainable food industry.

Thank you!

Megan,
Even as EU citizens there are still conditions of residency when living in Ireland. Essentially you can live freely for a period of time, but after that period you must be employed, or self-sufficient. This prevents people from showing up and claiming social welfare payments for extended periods of time.
I'll let you read the full details here

Re: farmers markets. You'll find them everywhere. Locally grown produce is a big deal in Ireland. You'll find a comprehensive listing of markets on Bord Bia at
