We are moving to Ireland from the U.S. this summer (late July). It is a move home for me (after 15 years!) and first move for my husband and 3 kids (5), (4) and (2). We will be in the area around Killaloe, Co. Clare. I found a thread on here recently about moving companies and we are going with one mentioned here (Schumacher) so thanks for that rec:) We will also be moving our dog so will download your booklet about that. No doubt I will be on here as crunch time approaches with more questions!:)

I am Svenja, from Germany, currently in a LDR with my boyfriend from County Cork. We have plans to get married next year in autumn. I will finish my third-level education here in Germany (work experience and vocational school at the same time for 3 years) in a pretty specialized field. The end of this year/ beginning of next year I plan to move to Ireland. I'd need help finding a job, a place to live, finding out how the country works (laws, insurances, ANYTHING). I have to say that I have visited Ireland for 7 years now on a regular basis of once or twice a year, even before meeting my soon-to-be fiancee. 
Also, he is pretty young, so he doesn't have a high income. I'd like to know if we can count on any governmental support to pay rent or anything. Any help is welcome!

Thanks Liam. Really appreciate this site, its been so useful, especially knowing you did this with small kids (gives me hope!). For the dog, I have been in contact with iagcargo as this is the company Are Lingus directed me to from their site. I was assuming they are contracted by the airline?

Also totally unrelated question but can I bring lamps home? Will they work with an adapter since they are low voltage. I know big electric items are a no go but wasn't sure about smaller items.

So SO happy to have found this site and forum.  What wonderful information 🙂

I am South African born and am in the process of registering on the FBR.  Once that is done i shall apply for my Irish passport.

We are a family of four, my husband (weve been married 14 years) and two sons, 14 and 3 (yes our timing was a little out there) and would like to move to Ireland as soon as my passport comes through.

I have read through the threads and im sure there will be questions that i will be asking, but there is a host of useful information here already!

We did bring a few small US appliances and had no issues, however it's on a case by case basis. Check the label on the item, and see if  it's rated for the Irish electric system.

Im in the last stages on registering on the FBR and it has been a long road.  But i am more than happy to let you know how it went, the steps and anything else i can help with.
