Hello!
I am Lindsay McCabe. My husband Kevin is an Irish citizen (via foreign births registry) and we have two children: Anna (11) and Aidan (9).
We plan to move to Ireland mid-2021 or sooner from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Kevin has been looking for employment in Ireland and we are hoping that it will be an easier process since he won't need a work visa. (He's been working for UPS for 18 years...industrial engineering/logistics/project management, if anyone know of opportunities!)
We've never even visited Ireland, and we plan to move without ever having visited...a leap of faith...an adventure! The kids are excited, as are we! We've learned so much on this site and are looking forward to learning even more and getting involved with the forums.
The question I have for those of you who have already done this: what is one thing you wish you'd known before you made the move?
Hello,
Myself my wife and my 2 daughters would like to move over to Ireland from Leicester (UK). We need to WAit at least 3 years due to my youngest daughter finishing her education.
I have before marriage, lived and worked in Dublin during the 1990’s and as a family we visit Ireland regularly. We are ideally after living somewhere not in Dublin as we would prefer to live somewhere more rural.
I currently work as an Artworker/Project Manager for a Graphic Design Consultancy and have been doing so for over 22 years now at various companies. As I am in m ...
Do yall think it's a bad idea to provide a copy of your credit report? I imagine since it's your American credit folks can't get access to it from there, but it does show all your accounts/previous accounts and all the little Green checkmarks all in a row showing "paid on time"... That looks pretty good!

And the new permit (passport stamp and card) is for another year.
So there is no application by mail process with forms and a checklist of documents you have to send, like here in the States for Green card renewal applicants?
Sorry if this is obvious from you reply, it just seems too good to believe...
So we looking for advice, information on how moving to N. Ireland will, or not, affect our pensions . Also paying taxes, here in US and N. Ireland. Do we choose where to pay? My husband is a dual Irish/American citizen, I'm from N. Ireland with a Green Card. Not sure where to post this, just putting it out there.
Hi Erich, and welcome to the site 🙂
From what I've seen (not personal experience) the timeline can vary, but in recent times the approval is pretty quick. One recent post here indicated it took 10 days. I haven't heard anybody mention it took up to 12 months, but if that's what's on the INIS site, then maybe it is possible. The experiences we have here though, tell a much brighter story.
You should also check out this article from the Migrant Project. You'll find it useful, I'm sure.
I haven't had people ask about a re-entry permit before. I think it's due to the fact that the process is so quick, most people would never need to look into getting one. If you find out more on that one though, please update us here.
Let me know if you have other questions 🙂

... a decision we don't WAnt to rush, but at the same time we are keen to go - so a dilema for us to resolve.
My line of work is Project Management, and i've worked across many sectors (IT/Data/Healthcare/Software/Engine Diagnstics), so i'm not tied to one area. There are plenty of PM jobs in Dublin but that doesn't interest me - the whole idea is to have a quality of life.
My wife is a Palliative Care Nurse (Macmillan) but i'd think a change of career is what she's after. If i can support us both then great, but that'll impact the mortgage application i gues ...
To be honest, I am not really sure. We are in a slightly different situation than Rikke. This is the first time I have read about needing to find a job within 3 months as an EU citizen, so either I WAsn't looking hard enough or I just WAsn't paying attention :-/
My husband will be getting EU citizenship through me early next year. Italy allows spouses to have citizenship after 3 years of marriage without fulfilling any type of residency. Prior to this August, he would have received the citizenship on the same application as me, however now it is a separate ...
... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation.
About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...
Hello, all,
I'm new on this site and joined because my husband, two boys and I are planning to move to Dublin next summer. We are moving because I would like to live in Europe again (I grew up in Denmark but have lived the last 15 years in the US.) I have finally convinced my husband to give it a go and I am worried about lots of things which are only exacerbated by the fact that this is a decision driven by me and the rest of my family is going along with it but not enthusiastically behind it.. I am most worried that my family will not be happy there, that my kids won't like their school and won't find friends (and the same goes for myself and husband), and that my husband and I won't find jobs we like. I think some of it is just nerves over moving that I would feel going anywhere. I feel pretty confident that my husband will have jobs to choose from because he works in tech (he is a solutions architect). I am managing a Project for a local health care non-profit implementing a patient portal.
Thanks!
Rikke
