... what worries me, what confuses me and how to go about job hunting 🙂
We are planning a move to Dublin next summer (probably August) and our biggest question right now is how easy it will be for my husband to get a job permit and a job. We are both currently employed but expect that it will be easier for him to get a job in Dublin while it might take longer for me. He is a solutions architect for a telecom company and has over ten years experience. I recently switched careers from nonprofit fundraising to public health. I graduated with a masters of public ...
Hello All,
Hope you are all enjoying the antics of the Irish at the Uefa cup! Has anyone with a U.S Green Card moved back to Ireland and kept it? Is this allowed? I am thinking of keeping my Green card status and would love to hear from those who are in the same position, or if they had to give it up and why?
I found the following on one of the US government webpages:
A Green Card is valid for readmission to the United States after a trip abroad if you do not leave for longer than 1 year. If your trip will last longer than 1 year, a reentry permit is needed.
... even being a citizen - it is all residency. My son is in high school, and we are thinking of moving back so that he has residency for college purposes. You need to be legally resident for 3 of the past 5 years in Ireland. (Or Europe)
Even getting married for residency is tricky - they may WAnt you to show that you have the financial resources to not be dependent on the state -- this goes for US or Ireland. When we applied for my husband's Green card, they WAnted my last 3 years tax returns and required that it WAs something like 150% of the poverty line? I ...

@kinofcoolamber I am a Project manager and UX designer that specifically works with financial institutions- highly regulated businesses are my home turf. I haven’t found any good resources yet- I feel that this idea of the borderless professional needs to grow into itself a bit outside of the EU.
Hi, My name is Vanessa and my husband and I are starting the research on wether we can relocate to Ireland from the US. My husband is an fine artist and I am a Project manager that would work at my U.S. job remotely in Ireland. We are looking to open an art gallery that would be a work/living space. I'm looking for any advice on where to begin researching if this is even possible.
Thank you!
Vanessa Moon
Important information for returning Irish citizens, courtesy of The Migrant Project
"If you are an Irish citizen returning to Ireland with a non-EEA spouse, civil partner, de facto partner or other family member, you should be aware that there is no automatic entitlement under Irish law for you to have them join you in Ireland. They may need to apply for a visa before coming to Ireland."

2nd comment. I just read that people were nervous about this. I have no idea why. We've done this twice and if anything it's WAy too easy. Looking at it now, I'd be more worried about getting an Irish driving license than your residency. You WILL NOT be deported. You have a right to remain and a definitive path to citizenship.
Worst case scenario? You'll be delayed a bit and might have to WAit awhile for your stamp 4. If you feel hard done by about it, think about the poor sucker (me) who went to the US, paid $4,500 + for my Green card and it took 1,800 a ...
... and I'll get a temporary stamp 4 right away and my registration card after, but I'll be to seek work right away (assuming there are no shenanigans on my part)? As an American, there's no WAy anyone can convince me it's even remotely this easy. (For comparison, with a lawyer and everything prepared in advance, it took my wife 8 months to get a work permit in the US)
Also, I hold several certifications in technology and Project management (all globally recognized), so I'm hoping I should be able to find a job once we're there, but am I right in assuming that ...
