RE: Permission to Remain in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish National

This is Steve here, Mairead's husband. I have now been in Ireland about a year and a half. The renewal of the Residency status WAs about as easy as it WAs getting the Stamp 4 in the first place, except this time it WAs at the Dundalk Garda station, which is very big and busy, rather than the small and relatively quiet one in Wicklow Town. So it WAs difficult getting an appointment with the immigration officer at the station. There WAs a snafu, where the appointment time WAs not recorded and conveyed to the right person. But after 3 visits and some WAiting in ...

RE: airline Travel, one way tickets, big problem$$$

If you don't return on the second leg of a round trip ticket then you are actually in violation of the Contract of Carriage (the agreement you make with the airline when you buy the ticket). The airline, if they catch you, can require you to pay the Full priced ticket that would have applied if you had booked the one WAy. For the airline to catch you / know they have to be tipped off some how. If you book with the same airline and start regularly dropping the second leg, they will likely catch on.

Liam, Will I be able to get permission to stay for the Full 6 months? We will not be taking up permanent residency just visiting for that amount of time. Thanks for your help. B.

Karen, in response to your bullet points... check out the following: There certainly are property managers. In fact a lot of auctioneers (estate agents) offer this service. Yes, there is property tax. Full details here I hope this helps 🙂 Liam

... mementos, and papers from my research career at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I thought I might explain the process for others who are shipping belongings from the US to Ireland. We booked a 20' FCL (full container load) that WAs actually only about half Full, with UpakWeShip. This WAs about half the price quoted by Careline. We hired movers on each end to load the container and to unload it, to save our backs. It is especially difficult to get things in and out of shipping containers because there is no ramp or lift gate on their tractor-trailers. T ...

Moving to Ireland with young children - school and daycare

... this fee includes all meals throughout the day - breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and light tea. The fact that food is included is a huge cost-savings. The one in Wicklow that I contacted is less expensive. The cost for both boys to attend Full-time would be 600 a month, including food. The cost difference here probably has a lot to do with it being in a small town (Tinahely), compared to the two in Clonmel. Either WAy, not bad considering we are paying around $1,500/month for Full-time daycare in Maine.

Hello everyone! My name is Pat and I am relocating from Northern California. With a name like Pat Egan, I am certain that you will see that I am of Irish descent. Other family names include Comerford, Daw, and Kenneally. Most recent relative WAs my great grandmother, Margaret Comerford, from Co Tipperary. I cannot apply via Irish descent because law allows only children and grandchildren to take that approach. I have already submitted my Stamp 0 application via a solicitor. An Irish CFA prepared my financial application. I wrote a personal statement and pr ...

My first post here! Hello! I WAs just looking into what it would take to spend a summer in Galway. I freelance Full-time and if I could afford it I'd love to sort of try out living in Ireland without the long-term commitment of a one-year lease. But...I have two cats. Getting them there for just three months is clearly ridiculous after seeing how much it costs. But I'm not sure if I could leave them for three months. My mom would almost definitely take care of them, but it would be so hard. Has anyone ever left their pets for a couple months? I'm so anxiou ...

Dual Citizen-live in IRE, continue to work remotely for US employer
Employment and Jobs

I am a dual Irish/US citizen. I have lived/worked in the US for most of my career. I attempted to move to IRE right before the pandemic (so own property, vehicle, have Irish driver's license and PPS #), returned to US and got caught in pandemic lockdowns. Took job in US while stuck here, but now would like to finalize becoming Full time resident in Ireland. However, I like my US employer and they are willing to continue employing me remotely from Ireland. How might that work? I understand there are treaties between the two countries to avoid double taxation and to pay social security benefits once eligible for it. Curious how the practicalities would work - ie: would my pay continue to go to my US bank account, be transferred to IRE bank account, then I would somehow report/pay taxes to IRE? Do I need to set up as a "self-employed" business in IRE? Are there businesses in IRE that I would need to work for who act as a middleman for tax purposes? Thanks in advance for advice from anyone who have had experience with this situation.

RE: Stamp 0 Renewal

Hello, Your approval letter states if you can renew or not. Yes, it is a yearly verification by an Irish CA. For the renewal finances, I submitted Irish CA verified proof of my income, and cash in the amount of an Irish home but NOT my monthly expenses (as I did in the initial submission). You will need to send in a renewal request to the same office in Dublin - most folks have been doing this at least a month or more in advance of the expiration (this is in your approval letter). (also you need to show private health insurance, Full copy of your passport, copy of your registration card) Then -- you will need to do the registration again. Where this depends on which county you live in. Dublin has an online system now. Other counties are probably still in person at the local garda (one has to check) Hope this helps.
