Hi there, We are moving back to Ireland in a few weeks after 11 years in the USA. I went to Set up international mail forwarding and realized its not as simple as on the opposite end (Ireland to USA). It seems USPS don't really do this!! Can anyone recommend a good mail forwarding service that doesn't cost an arm and leg? Thanks! ELaine

... along with my grandparents are all from Co. Cork. It has been a dream my whole life to live in ireland. I will be needing all information to help me on this move. Of course I have been gathering as much information on the web. I have been trying to understand the schooling and still not sure how to compare it to school here in the states. I currently live in WAshington state, but grew up in New Jersey, USA. I have been looking at Kilkenny area to live, but that is not Set in stone. I am hoping to get a lot of information from this site or ask questions. Th ...

Problems finding a rental that will allow pets

@fionaz and anyone else having difficulty with this. I played around with Daft.ie today searching for rentals that will allow pets. If you go to their 'advanced search' option, you can choose that as one of your criteria in the search. As an example a search in Dublin city, with no other options Set, returned 65 results. Of course, other factors will limit your selection e.g. price, location etc, but at least it's a starting point.

... In my case my wife is a dual citizen she is irish/british. At the Airport we used her irish passport and my South Africa passport told the immigration officers we moving here and my passport WAs stamped with 90 days and on the stamp it said joining spouse. We read too much online delayed to register because we WAited for utility bills. I think the situation might be the same for you Carrie when we went to the immigration office to register. The first day we went there we asked if we had been given an appointment date then we said no. We were given an appoin ...

If I WAs the UK government, I would put in a simple reciprocal trade policy with the EU. UK tariffs on EU goods would match those Set by the EU on UK goods. Then if the EU WAnts to follow the German Finance members comments about punishing the UK, they would get to hear from their own businessmen selling products to the UK.

... Even though the official word is that the application can take up to 12 months, I believe that this won't be the case in general. I contacted the Department of Justice some months ago and this WAs the response: "Your husband is a non visa required national and can enter the State for up to 90 days at the discretion of the Immigration officer at the airport. He should inform the officer that he is relocating to reside here on a full time basis with you his Irish spouse. Both of you should attend your local Immigration office (if residing in Dublin you atten ...

Permission to Remain in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish National

... (in Ireland) to my Irish-national soon-to-be husband. I have never been in Ireland on more than a 90 day regular visa. I have never been, and won't be, granted any other type of visa. I'm looking for some clarification from the information I have found online and am hoping that someone who has personally gone through this process can help me out! It looks like an individual can be granted permission to remain in Ireland, but is not entitled to a right of residence. One must apply for permission to remain - makes sense. Under the "how do I apply section," ...

Filing u.s taxes and covered ca

Depending on what type of Visa you are applying for you may need to keep health insurance. For reference of participants not in the US or California. Covered California is the HealthCare Exchange for California, and while I don't know their specific issues, I do know that there have been reports of limited number of doctors, and plans not matching what they were described as. If you don't file taxes you can be barred from entering the US, have your Passport revoked, estimated taxes Set by IRS, and because of FATCA, FBAR, and some reciprocal agreements between countries there are collection options for the IRS even in Ireland.

Work permit for American w/ Irish Spouse

It would actually be easier if you were moving to any other EU country. Essentially each EU country has more options over their own citizens because they are still sovereign countries. When going to another EU country the freedom of movement rules apply. For example Irish moving to Ireland is subject to any restrictions Set by Ireland. Irish moving to another EU country can do so under the freedom of movement and family reunification EU rules apply. For me Ireland is easier than UK as a UK citizen with an American spouse, pending the Brexit stuff. There is somebody else on here who is looking at Ireland instead of Denmark for similar reasons. If the UK stays in the EU after June 23, the UK would be easier than Ireland, even if there will be some red tape.

Bigjo You will have to move over first to meet the criteria, even for Credit Unions these days. Its not a problem I still have a UK account registered at my Daughters that handles some standing order commitments there. Check what your bank (UK) charges for ATM withdrawals in € and work the best WAy of sorting that. My Halifax account WAs great when it charged £0.50 per transaction but it now charges a Set fee + a % which makes it terrible for transfers. You will also have to sort out the pension payments once you have opened an Irish account.
