Hi Joey. Sorry, no good info, but my husband had success emailing the local Garda immigration station here in Galway. Are you going to be in a smaller Town like this? They were very quick emailing us back, more than once. INIS however, no response.

RE: Should I become a US citizen before I move back to Ireland, renew Greencard or let it lapse?

Yeah, at some point I'll probably spring for US citizenship too. I just never really get around to it. In your case I can see the attraction though. It takes a while, so if you're certain, then it's best to get moving on it. Happy to answer your questions as they come up. Sorry for the delay in this one though. Had family in Town for a week, so I took a break form the site 🙂

RE: Permission to Remain in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish National

... is my question..... My fiancé is Tanzanian, I am Irish. We met and lived over there for a couple of years and now I have come home. We are getting married in July and having another wedding bash here in August. He's been here twice before and we always apply for a short term visiting friends and family visa which he gets. We need to apply for his visa now again and as he's not my spouse yet we will have to apply for that short term one again. We WAnt to live in Ireland and I have recently taken up employment here. When we come in August, we'll be arriving ...

Renting Advice

Hi everyone, Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but a quick search didn't turn up too much. My wife and I are moving to Ireland from Cape Town in June and the biggest worry for me is finding somewhere to live. We'll both be arriving without work, which isn't ideal but seems unavoidable, but I do have an Irish passport and my wife does qualify for a Stamp 4 so finding work shouldn't be impossible. I have lived in Ireland previously and so do have a PPS number which should also help. My questions are really as follows: 1. I remember from when I lived in Dublin previously that jobs were essential for renting. If you didn't have one hardly anyone would look at you. We will have fairly significant savings to tide us over while job searching and we will have opened an Irish bank account to hold these savings. Will this help? Is there anything we can do to streamline this? 2. I also remember that letters from previous landlords were quite important. My wife and I have owned our own flat for the past 5 years so we don't have any landlords to get letters from. Would letters from our building's body corporate help? Basically, we are going to be hitting the ground quite cold and any advice to make this process a bit easier would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Thinking of moving from OZ to Ireland - have heard it's hard to make friends

I think we will always be seen as Americans, no matter where we are. For us it just comes down to not WAnting to necessarily live in an expat community, if that makes sense. We really WAnt to integrate and become part of the irish community. A lot of expats that we have encountered and talked to (some being my own co-workers) continued to compare the differences between Ireland and America in their daily lives. We dont WAnt to continue to live in the past of what we had in America but what we can make here in Ireland. Sorry that sounded really lame, but i ...

Flooding

How do we choose a place (anywhere in Ireland) that is least prone to flooding? I have heard that some flood protection works have recently saved certain Towns but then their neighbouring Town downstream (which never previously got flooded) is now suffering flood damage as a consequence. Does Met Eireann have a flooding map?

Moving to Ireland with young children - school and daycare

... this fee includes all meals throughout the day - breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and light tea. The fact that food is included is a huge cost-savings. The one in Wicklow that I contacted is less expensive. The cost for both boys to attend full-time would be 600 a month, including food. The cost difference here probably has a lot to do with it being in a small Town (Tinahely), compared to the two in Clonmel. Either WAy, not bad considering we are paying around $1,500/month for full-time daycare in Maine.

@stretchza Tough decision ahead, Andrew! Re #1: you can find some good resources for finding well-rated schools at this link: Re #2: there are a lot if commuter Towns not far from Dublin. Plenty of room for labs 🙂 Let me know if you need help finding Town suggestions. Re #3: it's best not to kid yourself. It isn't easy. There are pros and cons to an irish move. The weather is almost certainly a con for most people. Re #4: sorry, that one's over my head 🙂
