Earlier today I had the pleasure of speaking with an Irish citizen living in Ireland who is marrying a non-EEA citizen later this year. They have given notice of their intention to marry to the relevant authorities in Ireland, and will follow the process involved with that in the coming months i.e. entry of the non-EEA citizen to Ireland, interview prior to marriage, etc. The official policy on this type of immigration route states that after marriage the non-EEA citizen must leave the country, and then apply for a 'Join Family' visa, which takes anywhere Up to approx 6 months to process. Once that's approved, the non-EEA citizen can enter Ireland, and go about applying for permission to remain (most likely in the form of Stamp 4). I'm starting this topic for us to share whatever we can about this process. If you've been through it, please add your perspective to the thread, so that others can benefit from your experience. ... and like anywhere else, it's probably best to have it inspected. Same with dealer purchase - very similar to what you've experienced in America. I can't recommend any places in Galway to you, but I'd definitely advise to look all over Ireland for the car/price that you WAnt. A quick train ride over to Dublin, or Down to Cork, might be worth it for the right deal. Best of luck! Let us know how it goes.

Hi Liam, Looking forward to getting lots of information on our forthcoming move to N. Ireland. I'm from Co. Down married to an Irish/American who I have finally convinced to move home. We're both retired, my husband a Retired US Army officer. Our main concern at the moment is how my husbands pensions will be affected, if at all. Carole, The order in which you describe things make most sense. It's a catch 22 with the address a lot of times, so if you have a rental agreement in place, that should work for the needs in #3. A job offer letter may work too. It's totally at the discretion of the landlord/agency as to whether they will lease to you without a job in place. 3rd parties almost definitely won't allow this. A private landlord might, but it's unlikely. There are short term housing options too. You could go Down that route in the short term.

Just thought of another tip re: US cell phone number. When I WAs in the US I had T-Mobile with the plan where I can touch Down pretty much in any major country around the world and text US numbers for free (i.e. part of my regular bill, doesn't cost me extra) and use unlimited 3G internet. I WAs relying on this when I landed in Dublin since it took me a bit to get a SIM card (my iPhone WAsn't unlocked ugh). Hey Nick, Fairly recently, there WAs a change to the rules for pet moves to Ireland. Until that point, pet relocation companies were a requirement, and all pets had to go through Dublin. I've had confirmation from another mover on here, that that is no longer the case. However, if you arrive into Ireland as your first port of entry in to the EU, then you still need to go through the Lissenhall vet check in Dublin.
