I'm pretty sure you must move to Ireland first, as banks require an Irish address in order to Set up an account.
Hi everyone first time on this forum, id like to ask some questions on buying a house in ireland, i live in the uk, and my house is up for sale as we WAnt to live in ireland permanently, i have been looking in many areas of ireland and they are all very nice and extremly clean, my problem is all this bidding on houses, i have had my eye on one property in particular, but found on one estate agents its up for sale for 100000 euros, the same house on another estate agents its on sale for 790000, both asking for bids, i dont get this, why cant it just have o ...
This applies to a spouse to an Irish citizen getting work permit
I emailed the Irish immigration to confirm because it sounded to simple to be true (compared to getting work permit in the u.s that requires months of WAiting and being tempted to pay 4-7k on a lawyer). Once your non irish spouse gets to the customs counter in Ireland he/she shows marriages certificate and the customs officer will inform him that he needs to go register at the local garda (police station) within 90 days. From there they'll stamp his/her passport and they're free to work.
Her ...
i can tell you. because it is happening right now to us.
my father in law passed this morning.
we are going to ireland tomorrow. (we only just got back from there.)
a credit card and the internet (and a lift to the airport) is all you need in case of emergency. thankfully it can be Set up quickly these days. it might be ridiculous that i am typing this now, but i am stuffing pizza into my face in front of my ipad while i WAit for the laundry so i can finish packing. it has been quite a day.
... possible after making the move. So many things will be different (e.g. WAy of life, schools, customs, shopping, etc), and the only WAy to succeed is to Set out knowing that it will be different (not better or worse), than what you're used to.
Of course you'll prefer some things you were used to in America, but many things will be just as good in Ireland. If you can convince your family to approach it as positively as they possibly can, everything should work out well.
Looking forward to hearing more from you and your upcoming move.
Best wishes
Liam
My understanding is like an internationally recognized notary of your existing license, and the IDP is only valid with the license.
In the US IDP's are issues through AAA offices, and expiration date is Set to the same as your current driver's license. I am holding off on getting an IDP until I renew my California Driver's License again because it expires in early 2016 currently.
Hey Megan - there are no stupid questions 🙂 When I first moved to the US, I don't know how many times I got crisps instead of chips, I didn't know what a burrito WAs, and I WAs told where to find an electric train when I asked where the trolleys were in a supermarket. There are plenty of hurdles to jump along the WAy to assimilation, especially in Ireland!
Door-to-door trick or treating is very much the norm in Ireland. Has been for a very long time. Last year WAs my first year as a parent in Ireland, and it WAs nice to see that the American WAy of throwing ...
I think that the biggest thing that worries my american husband and myself (irish) is that we have jobs that are popular in America yet don't seem to have become popular in Ireland yet i.e. GIS and dental hygiene. We are just worried that moving back to Ireland will be a Set back. Crime wise, you can't get worse than some of the places here in America so that isn't much of an issue for us.
Hi Kate
If you can drive a standard stick-shift car you will definitely have far more choice when you go to buy. They are by far the most available. Having said that I bought an automatic last year, not necessarily because I WAs looking for one, but mostly because it WAs the right car/price.
I think you will find that both cars and child car seats are generally smaller in Europe than in the US. We brought our US-bought car seats to Ireland, and people do tend to comment on how much bigger they are. Actually the car we bought WAs as a result of needing a l ...
