Mairead @mairead - Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Please do keep us updated with your experience of this process as you move! I do hope it proceeds in the WAy that you've outlined! High hopes! David @dorzak - Thank you for this! I did realize that it will likely take me time to have permission to work and even to find employment, so we're financially planning ahead of time for the lack of income. Unfortunately, going anywhere besides Ireland isn't an option, as he lives there and owns & operates his business. Great Point on the duplicate ...

Permission to Remain in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish National

... (in Ireland) to my Irish-national soon-to-be husband. I have never been in Ireland on more than a 90 day regular visa. I have never been, and won't be, granted any other type of visa. I'm looking for some clarification from the information I have found online and am hoping that someone who has personally gone through this process can help me out! It looks like an individual can be granted permission to remain in Ireland, but is not entitled to a right of residence. One must apply for permission to remain - makes sense. Under the "how do I apply section," ...

Our experience in the end WAs a total nightmare. To highlight the experiences we encountered: - Estimated arrival of 4-6 weeks. In reality, it took five months. - Charged a change of address fee of $500. Their paperwork listed Dublin UK (we corrected this when noticed as we were getting the quote - the quote! that early! - and they assured us it WAs a typo and they'd fix it), so we had to pay $500 to change to Dublin, Ireland. - X-ray charge once it arrived in Rotterdam. We had no idea Rotterdam WAs on the itinerary until we received that notification. - ...

Moving to Ireland with young children - school and daycare

Wow, that is terrible! I agree with the mother as well - she has a very valid Point that as a tax payer and as a citizen, her child has the right to attend a state-funded school. I'm wondering if this is more of an issue in the larger cities, rather than the more rural areas where the schools need attendance numbers? Not that it makes it right whatsoever. Hopefully with the multinational companies bringing in more employees from abroad (who may or may not be practicing Catholics), and with the number of Irish Catholics decreasing, this may start to change things? Probably not soon enough though.

@rikkes from what I have found some daycares offer after school care and do after school pickup. However I am sure this has a lot to do with the proximity of the schools. The areas we are looking are a lot smaller than Dublin to the Point where the school is next door or right down the road from the daycare.

... recruiters so we may have a lead there. Also, Jason/Liam/Kate - thanks for posting the information about work permits. While it is expensive, it does make me happy to know that we have the option to pay for a work permit for my husband if that becomes necessary. I do think it could be a worthwhile investment, especially if that means that he can have an offer in place by the time we get there. Thank you all for participating in this thread. I WAs having some moments of panic earlier in the week and seeing everybody's helpful and thoughtful feedback is m ...

Wow Megan! I guess when I started this topic, I had a story like yours in mind. You've been through it all. Late collection. Ages to deliver. Stuff stolen. Ripped off. Stress up the ying-yang... Sorry to hear about your daughters stuff. I'm sure whether it WAs worth $5 or $500 it's all the same to them. They had an attachment to those things. It's awful that people would sift through your things and pick and choose what they WAnt for themselves. It's almost like having your house broken into. I remember asking questions about the shipping process before, ...

... It's a midway Point for us between Carlow and Little Island, and if I decide to stay home then it is not too far for Joe to commute down to Little Island. There are quite a few schools in Clonmel so I'll take your advice and start contacting them now. We really WAnt them in a national or Gaelscoil school, not an independent. Time to get added to the list.

... flight out of the country. It WAs chaos. - Our goods sat in the New Jersey port for several weeks. We contacted them at week six to ask for an update and only then did we find out. The reason WAs they required $500 for a change of address fee. They had our goods scheduled to ship to Dublin, UK, rather than Dublin, Ireland. All paperwork, all correspondence, stated Dublin, Ireland. They said someone on their end had entered UK and we were still to pay for their mistake. We did, because essentially our goods were being held hostage. - Two months ago ou ...

Steps to get a license

David, - Yes you can drive on your US license (for up to a year). The only time I ever needed to get an International Driving Permit WAs when I borrowed my brothers car for 2 weeks while visiting. He added me to his insurance, and they insisted on the IDP. When I WAs insured by myself on my own car in Ireland, a US license did fine. But if you'd prefer not to take a chance, you can pick up an IDP for approx $15. Be sure to get a statement of driving history from your insurance company before you leave for Ireland. I got mine while in Ireland, but it WAs a b ...
