trying to get the right balance of Hot and cold WAter, is it? And then someone elsewhere in the house turns on another one, and ruins the balance 🙂
Making the move next June. The plan WAs to move later this year, but we WAnt to travel Australia and New Zealand for 3 months early next year, so we postpone Ireland till June next year. Also, if would be nice to settle in during the summer months.
Born and raise in Ca and Mexican food is on the top of the list. Tomatillo for salsa verde and cilantro are on my list to plant. Also, to make friends with a butcher that can cut tri tip. WAlked into a butcher and he had no clue what a tri tip cut WAs. I guess it's a west coast thing.
Thing I will try and fit ...
Compared to the UK where property tax starts at over £1,000 plus WAter Rates the cost of property tax in Ireland is under 10% of UK costs.
Heating and lighting is about the same although both countries have increased a lot in recent years. We still use Wood and Coal but then we are in a traditional cottage out in the wilds and 12 miles from the nearest bus stop.
Road Tax in the UK caps at around £200 for a road car which is about where Irish road tax starts. Insurance (car) is a little cheaper in Ireland. We drive a lot more over here than most folk in the ...
... be paid out of pocket. New WAter charges, a relatively new property tax, TV license fee etc.
Here's some of the text of my most recent conversation with @soju4321 who's concerned about the cost of living in Ireland:
soju4321: "Coming from CA and living in Ireland, how comparable are the cost of living/monthly expenses between the two? E.G. Rent/utilizes/car insurance (transportation) / medical insurance?
What scares me is all other expenses in Ireland such as coal. In CA we hardly use the heater during the winter. Tv tax, owner credit card and back accoun ...
They sure don't make it easy, Pauline. Certainly an adventure!
I know lots of people would appreciate hearing how you get on with the banks. It's always a Hot topic here. Definitely fill us in when you get settled.
Thanks Liam for posting this.
Jason- I think I will try the same method you are thinking. I called a few of the top estate agencies and each of them responded with "we have not had any landlords allowing pets since 2012. The rental market is so Hot they can afford to be picky". That is a little deflating. We are moving to Ireland next month and I will be sure to update this post with any helpful information.
HI!
Does anyone know how the medical coding System works in Ireland? HCPCS & CPTs were created by WHO (World Health Organization) so I know Ireland uses the same coding System as the U.S. but what companies or independent contractors assign the codes & what are the positions called?
... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation.
About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with self-employment taxes in Ireland? I'm a US and Irish citizen considering a move to Ireland. I'm self employed here in the US. I'm aware of the 2555 Foreign Earned Income form for paying my US taxes while abroad, but paying taxes into the Irish System ... that I'm not so clear on. I've read information on citizensinformation.ie, but does anyone have experience with this or recommendations of someone to speak with? Thanks.
Kieran,
you can get a US to Ireland power adapter. Theyre bulky and expensive, but do work for most things that need them. I used one years ago for a stereo System. My opinion though, is it's just easier to sell/rebuy in the long term.
Haven't had the grill question below. That's one I'll have to look into further.
