My Wife and I will be moving to Ireland from Denver.
The bedroom furniture in question WAs built here in Colorado, where the Humidity is around 10-15%.
Is this furniture with its many Drawers even worth bringing to The Humid climate of Ireland?
Its a 17 year old bedroom set and I know some swelling will occur I just don't know how bad it will be.It WAs about $6000 17 years ago and probably worth little to anyone else.We would give it away for free more than likely.
Anyone out there regret bringing Furniture with them to Ireland,or should I still consider ...
Hi Dinah,
There's good and bad to hiring a removal company. In the case of heavy furniture etc, it's almost a must, IMO.
However, this site is for people moving to Ireland, and offering advice specifically for that. You might find one that is geared specifically to UK movers out there too.
Hello everyone, I’m planning to relocate to a new house in a few months. Now, I need help with the entire process seeing the numerous and heavy furniture pieces that must be transported from Ireland to the UK. Since it’s my first time to deal with this process, I’m thinking of hiring a moving specialist. My neighbour recommended one of the removal companies Ireland to UK that he knows. Do you think it’s a good idea to seek their services?
Wow Megan! I guess when I started this topic, I had a story like yours in mind. You've been through it all. Late collection. Ages to deliver. Stuff stolen. Ripped off. Stress up the ying-yang...
Sorry to hear about your daughters stuff. I'm sure whether it WAs worth $5 or $500 it's all the same to them. They had an attachment to those things. It's awful that people would sift through your things and pick and choose what they WAnt for themselves. It's almost like having your house broken into.
I remember asking questions about the shipping process before, ...
... actually buy a house in 2022 (waiting for tax free distribution from I pension). I am feeling like BBQ grills, smokers, sofas, garden furniture and gazebos... can all be purchased here is ISS for less and shipped, but in the end I feel I should just sell I all here and buy stuff there in another year. Are the prices that much more expensive on that type of stuff to WArrant shipping everything we have?
Hi’ any help or suggestions?
We are selling our US holiday home after 6 years and WAnt to bring back the furniture to use in our home in Ireland.
All the info I find is based on changing residence which technically we are not. We have had our main home in Ireland all along. Will we be subject to duty and taxes?
Also about 90% of the furniture WAs originally purchased in and shipped from Ireland to the USA 7 years ago because we thought we were moving permanently to the US. That plan changed and we returned to Ireland after 6 months but chose to not sell ...
We have secured our Stamp O and I WAs wondering what advice people have on the car situation. We are currently doing a monthly car rental, but I WAs hoping to find a place where we could have a six month or one year car lease. I read that some people bring their cars with them, and that doesn't seem as Ideal. We have a lease in the States that's nearly due. I've heard from Irish friends getting an Irish license and car insurance isn't easy on the buying side. Appreciate thoughts.
Hi Danielle,
Yes, he will need proof of address too. Your name won't work on it's own. The lease would be Ideal, but if you'd prefer to keep his name off the lease, then a utility bill in his name (both is good too) should suffice. Make it a something that is tied to the house though e.g. an electric bill, internet bill etc, as opposed to something like a mobile phone bill.
Liam
It is good to have such detailed information about your USPS experience, especially as we are in Seattle. With the furniture we will have to ship, much will go in a container, but for some things the USPS would be superior for the speed and convenience.
I am not bringing much furniture as my new home is virtually furnished. However, will my garden hose attach to a tap in Ireland? Or should I not bother. Are the hose attachments the same or can I get an adapter?
My lawn mower is quite good and I shall need one. Better to bring or sell?
