Hello All, Hope you are all enjoying the antics of the Irish at the Uefa cup! Has anyone with a U.S Green Card moved back to Ireland and kept it? Is this allowed? I am thinking of keeping my Green card status and would love to hear from those who are in the same position, or if they had to give it up and why?

You're referring to the 'help to buy' scheme, right @dorzak ? There are plenty of new housing developments around the country. There were popping up all over Cork city suburbs where I lived. And most would fall under the 400k cap. Try this view on myhome.ie Click on the map view button and then zoom in on an area to see what's new. The map view is misleading at first until you zoom in, because it only shows hits in Dublin and Cork.

I found the following on one of the US government webpages: A Green Card is valid for readmission to the United States after a trip abroad if you do not leave for longer than 1 year. If your trip will last longer than 1 year, a reentry permit is needed.

... and must either stay in your vehicle or in a kennel they provide (for free) for the entire voyage. See detailed info here. Our pets likely won't have pet passports a day after arriving in the UK, but I plan on using my third country pet certificate to take them on board the ferry. I'll contact Irish Ferries to verify this is okay and get back to you when I get a reply. I also looked into using PO Ferries from Liverpool to Dublin, but the trip WAs too long at 8 hours.

... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation. About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...

... even being a citizen - it is all residency. My son is in high school, and we are thinking of moving back so that he has residency for college purposes. You need to be legally resident for 3 of the past 5 years in Ireland. (Or Europe) Even getting married for residency is tricky - they may WAnt you to show that you have the financial resources to not be dependent on the state -- this goes for US or Ireland. When we applied for my husband's Green card, they WAnted my last 3 years tax returns and required that it WAs something like 150% of the poverty line? I ...

2nd comment. I just read that people were nervous about this. I have no idea why. We've done this twice and if anything it's WAy too easy. Looking at it now, I'd be more worried about getting an Irish driving license than your residency. You WILL NOT be deported. You have a right to remain and a definitive path to citizenship. Worst case scenario? You'll be delayed a bit and might have to WAit awhile for your stamp 4. If you feel hard done by about it, think about the poor sucker (me) who went to the US, paid $4,500 + for my Green card and it took 1,800 a ...

Hello, Myself my wife and my 2 daughters would like to move over to Ireland from Leicester (UK). We need to WAit at least 3 years due to my youngest daughter finishing her education. I have before marriage, lived and worked in Dublin during the 1990’s and as a family we visit Ireland regularly. We are ideally after living somewhere not in Dublin as we would prefer to live somewhere more rural. I currently work as an Artworker/Project Manager for a Graphic Design Consultancy and have been doing so for over 22 years now at various companies. As I am in m ...
