So, I intend to ship my belongings via a FCL in advance of my home renovation being complete, in order to avoid the timing nightmares and delays that I've read about on this forum.  One of the options Schumacher presented was long-term storage thru their (un-named) partner in Ireland.  The estimate contains a hefty line item for a 10-month alotment of storage fees.  It is unclear whether they would store the entire container or unload into a storage unit.  My guess is the latter, but I would seek clarification.  On the other hand, I have found a self-storage facility reasonably close to where my home is, which is a bit more expensive but would provide me with the ability to go in and out and obtain things gradually as needed even if parts of my renovation are not yet complete.  I may be answering my own question here, but wouldn't it be better to take delivery of the container sooner rather than later to make sure everything arrived than letting it sit with the shipping company for several months, even if it means paying a little bit more for a private storage unit?

Hi Susan,

I would definitely go with the option to receive the container sooner. You will need the items asap, and having them available will help you settle in much more quickly.

I'd be interested to hear what the storage rates are. As you find out more, would you mind updating us?

Thx!

Thanks Liam.  I think the tricky part is going to be timing the delivery, as I will be back and forth between Ireland & the US, so not sure how definitively it could be timed so I can make arrangements to be there.  As to the estimates, Schumacher quoted $3,000 for 10 months of storage on the Ireland side.  Another downside of that is it is an upfront expense, which I'm not keen on.  As for private storage, I've gotten a quote of 260 euro for 200 sq.ft. unit & 340 euro for a 300 sq.ft. unit.
