One-way ticket?

I will be moving to Ireland with my husband and three children at the beginning of August.  My husband is an Irish citizen, and all three children have Irish passports. I have an American passport.

My question is whether I can fly to Ireland on a one-way ticket. Based on my research and previous visits, I feel confident that we shouldn't have any trouble with border control in Dublin, but I've read that the airline on the US side may require that I have a return ticket. Has anyone had experience with this?

Thank you!

Jenna,

You sure can! My (US) wife has a number of times. They will obviously question you when you land, and ask the purpose of your visit. Not having a return ticket is fine for many reasons e.g. you're visiting Ireland and then heading off somewhere else. But, you don't have to make anything up. Your reason for a one way ticket is legitimate.
