We are looking to move to Ireland from the UK imminently and intend to rent before buying. We will look for employment once we are there. Today on checking for properties I have seen that the landlord requires a PPS number. I was aware of PPS numbers but did not realise you needed one to rent. To apply for a PPS number you must be resident. We might short term or holiday let initially, but this won't provide us with proof of residency. So any ideas would be gratefully received about how you get round this chicken and egg situation?

Hi Carolyne. Welcome to the site.

Have you contacted any of the agents to find out if they actually require the PPS number? Often, there's a request for information on a form, but it's not always necessary. Especially with a valid explanation.
When applying for a PPS number a lease agreement will work as proof of residence. Unless it's something like AirBnB, you should be signing a lease, correct? If you can do that ahead of time, or asap on arrival, you should be able to apply for your PPS number.
Let us know how this works out.

Liam
