Basically just find a Tesco Store and pick up a basic phone for about €10/20 then €15 credit gives 1000 minutes of Irish calls and texts and still leaves the €15 for making overseas calls @ 2cent or if you just buy the sim to Drop into an existing Android phone €5 gets 1 gig of data to use the phone as a satnav
We have Samsung and LG phones and a basic Nocia for when guests come over. Modern phones are much of a muchness when it comes to reception.
I would be interested in this as well. We plan on bringing 2 dogs, a terrier & a lab. I typically look on daft.ie, and you can go to "Advanced Search" and select "Allows Pets" under the "Facilities" Drop down box. I think my plan WAs to contact a local realtor or management company in the area we wish to move and see what they have or can locate for us. Probably a terrible plan, but seeing how we would be trying to secure a place while still in the US I figure I could maybe get pictures beyond what the listing shows.
We've unfortunately found with our move that if something can go wrong, it will, lol! It's so tragic, it's almost hysterical. Immigration issues (understatement), home rental issues, schooling issues for the children (as non-EEA students garda insisted they *must* attend private schools and none were in our district), our family dog passed away last Friday, and my husband *just* had a car accident.
We made this move for the sake of adventure, but I think I could do with a bit less adventure at this stage.
Will be posting a blog update once our pallets arrive and will detail how it played out. I'll be sure to Drop the link here at that time, in the event it proves useful to anyone else.
... in (Galway) WAs really similar to where I grew up in the US and I am madly in love with my fiancee so it seems like a win win to me.

Hi Jordan,
$1000 honestly doesn't seem all that bad. I know plenty of people who have paid over 2k from the US to Ireland. You're not really missing a better option. A long haul flight is the best WAy, even though you could go by sea if you WAnted to spend the time doing so.
I personally have not had a dog fly out of Chicago, but have from numerous other airports. Generally, you'll either Drop them off with the pet handler company, somewhere near the airport, or you may take them straight to the airlines cargo area yourself. I've done both. It just depend ...
Hi. My Irish husband and I are moving to Ireland in June. I'm trying to wrap my head around if there is a difference between permission to remain and registering. Are these both happening at the same time? I guess I WAs thinking permission to remain and registering were done at the same time but the more I read I'm starting to wonder if we have two different steps to take care of. I've been reading the guide for Family Reunification, which seems like we need to follow, and there is a bit regarding making 40k over the previous 3 years. This isn't an is ...
... at says 2 hours to load and 2 hours to unload are included. Additional time loading is $100/hour.
I have taken an interest in some of the containers that are complete containers that fit within a larger container. Here is a comparison of two recent quotes I have looked at -
Wood Crate that is approximately 1/4 a container. Dropped off and allowed up to two weeks to load. Unloaded on arrival in Ireland. When I asked for a quote found out they don't Drop off in my zip code. If I drive 1 hour I can load my items at their nearest partner WArehouse. Q ...
I think what Kate is referring to is the Stamp 0 process, which does not entitle you to work while in Ireland, even remotely. It also restricts you from use of irish public services, which most likely would include school for your kids too. It's not intended for long term immigrants. For that you have to qualify for a visa.
Is there an embassy near where you live that you could call or Drop in to? There's a good chance they'll refer you to the online material for visa applicants, but sometimes it's good to talk to someone.
I know this does not sound very encouraging, but it is difficult to move to the EU with citizenship and/or sponsored employment.
... to provide us a contract and quote within 24 hours of our conversation, neither of which ever came. We never heard from him again. We could have contacted the company again, but decided against it.
The amount we WAnted to ship WAs miniscule and WAs not worth the hassle, so we ended up just checking extra baggage on our flight. We also shipped some packages through USPS in their international flat rate boxes, which we will never do again!! The boxes came and were practically falling apart. The Irish post had retaped them to keep the contents from falling ou ...
... regards weather. Parents the length and breath of the country will be losing sleep and WAtching gray hairs grow at the thought of having less options to keep the kiddos entertained with.
Ireland does not exactly have a wealth of things to do indoors for kids. There are some indoor playgrounds, but those can be a bit costly, especially if you're paying for 2 or 3 kids. For example a local place in Cork is charging €7.50 per kid. That's over €22 if you've got 3 little ones with a bag full of energy to burn.
There are some malls (not many outside of Dublin I ...
