@tornadoali
Sorry for the delayed response tornadoali. I took a few weeks off to get a move of my own under my belt 🙂 Back in action now!
That's a great idea, and one which I can add a personal note to. I ran my own US credit report when looking for a mortgage in Ireland. It helped clarify my past. Like yours, it WAs good, however I can't say that it WAs a decision maker for the bank. It certainly Did not hurt. They were happy to see it.
2nd comment. I just read that people were nervous about this. I have no idea why. We've done this twice and if anything it's WAy too easy. Looking at it now, I'd be more worried about getting an Irish driving license than your residency. You WILL NOT be deported. You have a right to remain and a definitive path to citizenship.
Worst case scenario? You'll be delayed a bit and might have to WAit awhile for your stamp 4. If you feel hard done by about it, think about the poor sucker (me) who went to the US, paid $4,500 + for my Green card and it took 1,800 a ...
Hi New boy here.
We are from UK but have been living in France for six years.
We are looking to move to Ireland as soon as we can arrange somewhere to live.
Income derives from a Ltd company based in UK which also operates in Ireland.
We will need a mortgage to purchase a property in Ireland ans as we have no history we have been told that we will need to rent a House for at least 6 months to qualify for the mortgage, so I have been looking at lots of potential properties on line and have sent a total of 23 emails to various estate agents. Total responses? 3.
If I ask for information we just get told "everything we have is on the website. Come in to the office to Discuss it" even though we are in a Different country.
We have pets and we are looking for a property that is not on a busy road but if we ask about finding the House on Google maps it os "sorry, we can't help you with that, we may have some properties that would be suitable come into the office. They will not accept the fact that I am not going to spend days travelling on the off chance they might have something suitable. I am perfectly happy to travel to see something that I know is suitable beforehand.
This is not a Dig at Irish estate agents, French agents are even worse and charge more.
So, anyone know of a House (min 3 beds/baths detached) in a quiet and secluded location, anywhere in Ireland that is to let for 6 months to a year that will accept pets.
Budget 800-1500 a month and happy to pay 6 months up front.
If the House turns out to be for sale at the end of the rental period that would be perfect, budget 250,000 - 350,000. It would save moving again.
Sorry for the long winded rant but getting very frustrated.
... in Ireland is a bit of a shambles if you ask me. I got quite fed up with how things were handled to be quite honest. I had bought a House in the US years back, and WAs used to a more professional and transparent approach. You can find more details here:
As for proving you will be a 'cash' buyer, that'll be very hard to prove until you have the money in the bank. There's nothing stopping you bidding for a House in Ireland, and at the same time, planning to rent out your UK House.
Being a cash buyer does hold some weight. The sale won't be contingent on y ...
Hello all,
As I have mentioned in other posts I have WAnted to move to Ireland for a while and been researching it. My wife has come up with two items she will miss from growing up in California.
REAL Mexican food (Hint: mixing corn in doesn't make it Mexican food and soft corn tortillas are real tacos)
My offset smoker/BBQ
For the first she is working on learning to make tortillas from scratch, and pondering how well I could grow jalapeños and other peppers in a small poly Green House/raised bed. There is also a specialty shop in Dublin that does carry ...
Thank you, that makes sense!
I've lived alone / paid my own mortgage for the last 10 years. When I move to Dublin and look for a flat, what do I do for tenant references?
Possibly a question for UK mortgage/loan brokers I'd say Michelle. I'm personally unaware of any, and your question hasn't come up here before.
Hi Dinah,
There's good and bad to hiring a removal company. In the case of heavy furniture etc, it's almost a must, IMO.
However, this site is for people moving to Ireland, and offering advice specifically for that. You might find one that is geared specifically to UK movers out there too.
I understand the independent means requirement that each person (my wife and I) must have a passive source of income to the amount of 50K Euros per year. However, I have recently been told that each one of us must have a lump sum of cash equal to the average price of a House in Ireland (250k euros). I had previously been told that we would meet the lump sum requirement if we jointly owned a House worth 250k Euros. does anyone have any experience on this issue? Any advice greatly appreciated as we cannot meet the requirement if we both have to have $250K Euro cash/house availability.
