Not every solicitor will demand a consultation Fee in order to answer a few immigration questions but most do require it. Different from the US where an attorney WAnts to sell YOU their expertise before money is exchanged. How do you know if the solicitor is any good unless you speak with them beforehand? This is just one of the many differences been doing business in Ireland vs. the US. Would a job seeker ask for payment from the company before an interview? That's kinda the right analogy.
Hi Kevin, welcome to the site.
From my experience I don't think you'll find a recommendation for a standout shipper. Sadly, most people seem to have some sort of discontent. Maybe it's just the nature of this type of service. Price, delays, lost items, etc. We've heard it all.
I personally don't recommend anyone company, but do urge people to get many (5 or 6) quotes, and scrutinize each one. Make sure they are like-for-like (door to door, or whatever you're doing), and make sure you question every Fee, and lack of Fees (the ones that pop up later!).
Please Feel free to add new topics as things come up.

... a 12-hour journey across the Atlantic. I thus broke up travel plans, as follows:
Domestic: United Airlines charged $125 pet Fee to book flight, nonstop, from SMF>EWR. Motel 6 offers pet-friendly lodging near EWR.
International: Delta booked my cat, in-cabin, and provided dimensions for pet carrier as required for the air CRAFT type. I returned to my reservations and found NOTHING about my cat, etc. When I called Delta, a note had been added to my reservation that NO IN-CABIN travel allowed for my cat. Cancelled entire reservation, with promise to write ...

your #3. that Fee is the case for people in your position. Among others, for spouses of Irish citizens, that Fee is WAived. More info here
your #4. that's cool 🙂 However, it's probably still in your best interests to apply as early into your arrival as possible.
You mentioned your other posts...they are very useful. Here's is a link to everything you have posted on the forum.
Thanks again for always coming back and updating us with new info as you find it. Enjoy your well deserved time in Ireland.

You will have to move over first to meet the criteria, even for Credit Unions these days. Its not a problem I still have a UK account registered at my Daughters that handles some standing order commitments there.
Check what your bank (UK) charges for ATM withdrawals in € and work the best WAy of sorting that. My Halifax account WAs great when it charged £0.50 per transaction but it now charges a set Fee + a % which makes it terrible for transfers.
You will also have to sort out the pension payments once you have opened an Irish account.
Hi Liam,
That's not terrible, especially since it looks like a one-time Fee rather than a per item charge. I did some more research on the website and it looks like you have to order in-store to have the items delivered, you can't just buy online.
I WAs hoping to just buy online and have the items delivered to save a trip into a Dublin. But I guess a 2 hr drive to Dublin is no different than the 2 hr drive we currently have to make to our local IKEA in the US.
Looking at a move in April so trying to get our ducks in a row.
... Priority Mail. This is the least expensive option that the USPS offers to Ireland, with a 66 LBS maximum weight. That heaviest box would cost about $250. $200 insurance comes with that, and you can add up to $450 more insured value for a small insurance Fee. The postage Fee is by weight but there is a max size limit (109 inches girth plus height, I think. Our boxes were 18" cubes, "heavy duty medium" from Lowes or Home Depot). It comes out to about $44 for an empty box, and everything in it is about $2/lb extra. For one high-value box with lots of electroni ...

Also, you may WAnt to get clarification on exactly what is and what is not covered in your expense. As an example of something I WAsn't aware of when I paid for my shipping Fees, I WAs charged a Fee of 130 Euro by the company in Ireland who received my items (more info). Megan had an even worse example where her items were held hostage until a Fee WAs paid for a change of address (if I recall correctly). The change of address WAs an error on the shipping company's fault.
I don't WAnt to sound pessimistic, but it's good t ...

- Our goods sat in the New Jersey port for several weeks. We contacted them at week six to ask for an update and only then did we find out. The reason WAs they required $500 for a change of address Fee. They had our goods scheduled to ship to Dublin, UK, rather than Dublin, Ireland. All paperwork, all correspondence, stated Dublin, Ireland. They said someone on their end had entered UK and we were still to pay for their mistake. We did, because essentially our goods were being held hostage.

You should apply now to take the theory test. Online requires you to have a PC - not a mac; and not a phone. I did not have a PC - so I took it in person.
I would apply straight away as the WAiting time is very long to get a test time.
I downloaded the official app for my phone - and did a test a day for months on end. One time Fee. I passed with 100% (I suggest using their app bc they upgrade the questions; do not use a free one)
I just started my driving lessons this week. You cannot ask for a WAiver of the time or 12 lessons requirements until y ...
