RE: Renting Advice

Hey Jon, It makes Total sense that landlords require that their tenants be employed, but not everyone is looking for work, or needs it. If your savings can go a long WAy, then that'll be helpful. Some landlords will also take on renters who pay multiple months up front. None of this is standard though, and it'll very much be on a case by case basis. Short term rentals could be an option for you too e.g Airbnb/spotahome etc. Similarily with #2, not everyone has a rental history, but in this case mortgage statements showing consistent monthly payments w ...

Hi Liam, Thank you for your help. About the rate I will paste below from PN 1878a "Standard (Flat) Rate of Customs Duty Customs Duty is charged at a standard rate of 2.5% on goods of a non-commercial nature provided that the value of goods subject to such duty does not exceed €700 per traveller. In determining if the Total value exceeds €700, the monetary allowance of €430/€215, if applicable, and the value of goods not subject to Customs Duty are taken into account." So in our case the max value at which we will get taxed at 2.5 % is 2100 euros I presume. But again how much I would think or hope to get for a thing is not really what you would get if you try to sell it and I will have to leave country in lets say one week. The main idea is that they do not have any other means of evaluating your belongings. Thank you. Ruben

Permission to Remain in Ireland as the spouse of an Irish National

Pictures and messages dont cut it. You have to be living together for 2 years. I dont know what your bf is doing hopefully a degree. If it is a degree I suggest he gets ready for a masters degree after he finishes if that works it means you have to start living together have joint utility bills maybe a joint account for your bills. Then it might be easy for him to get another year for him masters in Total that would add about to 2 years. Then you eligible to apply for de facto. I think he is able to apply for another year based on him doing his masters. The only option is marriage which you both are not ready for and that would be for the visa which would not be right. Good luck.

Hi John, Maybe the information in this new topic may help? End to end hassle free shipping via ocean seems to be a myth. Customs may choose to examine your good, or not. If they do, you'll be charged a fee for that too. The fee would amount to a portion of the Total fee for the container your items were in. Hope this helps @johnf

@Niamh the good thing for you is you Irish and the process is quite fast for spouses of Irish nationals.Im South African and my wife is Irish. The first thing I suggest you get is a tenancy agreement in both your names. After you get married as soon as possible go to your nearest Garda immigration station close to you get your husband registered the process there takes less than 20 mins they will ask for your marriage certificate and tenancy agreement, it took me 10 days in Total including weekends because I Iive outside Dublin the card is issued in Dublin and application also processed in Dublin so they will tell you 2 weeks for his immigration card stamp 4. When your husband collect his stamp 4 card which is valid for 3 years thats when they can stamp his passport with the stamp 4. For spouses of Irish nationals we can apply for our pps number after we have our stamp 4 which the process is very smooth. If you live in Dublin he would get his stamp 4 card and stamp the same day. Dont hesitate to ask any questions.

... We have about 1000 cubic feet of belongings, in a 10x15x8' storage unit. I figure we will probably put it into a 20' container not shared. (1360 cu. ft.). I am wondering how much this will cost to ship, door-to-door from our storage unit in Atlanta to our house. I have not begun to collect quotations yet, because I WAnted to hear some real world examples from you all! How much did it cost to ship your stuff from the US, if that is where you came from? I am especially interested in a Total amount for a 20' container. Even if you have a ballpark estimate tha ...

Our experience in the end WAs a Total nightmare. To highlight the experiences we encountered: - Estimated arrival of 4-6 weeks. In reality, it took five months. - Charged a change of address fee of $500. Their paperwork listed Dublin UK (we corrected this when noticed as we were getting the quote - the quote! that early! - and they assured us it WAs a typo and they'd fix it), so we had to pay $500 to change to Dublin, Ireland. - X-ray charge once it arrived in Rotterdam. We had no idea Rotterdam WAs on the itinerary until we received that notification. - ...
