First, the income levels are significantly lower than before (40k for one person, 60k for a couple but WAs previously 50k each). Asset requirement is lower (100k single/150k couple instead of 200k each). Also allow for some trade off between income and assets. Higher income could mean lower assets or vice a versa. Counting property in Ireland for part of the assets also is an improvement.
It does appear to be a step in the right direction.
As for age requirements. It is between 60-75. I can see that as being reasonable. If you can afford to ret ...
@familyofrainbows - There are auto leasing companies in Ireland, but I cannot offer any input on the process or degree of difficulty you might encounter. I purchased a used car at the local dealer and have never had a better car buying experience. The car WAs only 2 years old so no NCT due for a couple of years. Registration WAs easy enough. Insurance will be expensive with your US license. I did have my Learners Permit at the time, so that helped significantly. Once I obtained my Full Irish License the insurance cost WAs reduced again, but not signifi ...
Hi John
I reached out to a past contributor on the site. He is a Managing Director of a moving company based in Ireland. I think you will find his answer to your question quite useful. I'll post it below here. Let me know if you WAnt me to put you in touch. ~Liam

Buying a container and shipping it as user owner is certainly possible. If he WAnts that option there should be no reason why he can’t find a mover or a freight company to co-ordinate that for him. After clearance on this side, we (potentially we) would arrange haulage from the port with a ...
Saw the article on there (IC). I read some of the comments too. As to be expected, there is a mixture of Support, for and against a change being made too allow people to retire. Whatever happens, they should at least make a change to so people know what to expect. It should be clear whether or not people can retire to Ireland, and under what conditions. This business of giving someone permission to remain for 12 months, and then they must re-apply is crazy. How could anyone ever be expected to lay down roots?
Totally agree, David. Seems like they WAnt to stem the flow as much as possible from outside the EU. And the 50k ensures that anyone who does get in, can certainly pay their WAy. When you consider the average income is almost 10k less, and that those people have families to Support, 50K seems excessive.
no, unfortunately there is no office in Ireland. Who would we contact in order to prove that we could financially Support ourselves?
Liam, we are both US citizens.
First, I would like to introduce myself. I am a dual citizen of the US and Italy. My wife and I bought a home in Kerry, have PPS numbers, utility bills, etc. Our daughter lives and works in Dublin, and we plan to move to Ireland Full time soon. First we have to sell our home in the USA. It goes on the market in May. I plan to work from Ireland with my current employer or find a new job, which shouldn't be a problem since I'm in the software industry and have EU citizenship.
We are having a hard time understanding how the Stamp 4 process works.
Does my wife apply during our next visit in April, or can she apply from the USA?
Is an application done with both INIS(EU1) and the Garda, or can we just start with the Garda?
My employer is in the USA. Will INIS accept a US employer on the UE1 form?
Must I be living Full time in Ireland for her to get the Stamp 4? If our house does not sell by September, she may move to Kerry, and I would travel between the US and Ireland until our house sells.
Thank you for any advice. We thought that we had this all figured out, but are getting more confused as we look further into this.
Regards, Mark
... mementos, and papers from my research career at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I thought I might explain the process for others who are shipping belongings from the US to Ireland. We booked a 20' FCL (full container load) that WAs actually only about half Full, with UpakWeShip. This WAs about half the price quoted by Careline. We hired movers on each end to load the container and to unload it, to save our backs. It is especially difficult to get things in and out of shipping containers because there is no ramp or lift gate on their tractor-trailers. T ...

This is Steve here, Mairead's husband. I have now been in Ireland about a year and a half. The renewal of the Residency status WAs about as easy as it WAs getting the Stamp 4 in the first place, except this time it WAs at the Dundalk Garda station, which is very big and busy, rather than the small and relatively quiet one in Wicklow Town. So it WAs difficult getting an appointment with the immigration officer at the station. There WAs a snafu, where the appointment time WAs not recorded and conveyed to the right person. But after 3 visits ...
Hi Laura,
Does your husband's employer happen to have an office in Ireland? If not, i think you're only option would be to prove that you can financially Support yourselves during your time in Ireland. Or as Liam mentioned, go back to school and be on an education visa.
