I'm pretty content with the (mild) Irish weather, coming from the American east Coast where it just goes from one extreme to another! 🙂
Love Ireland overall.
One thing that drives me crazy...those double taps haha!
And oh, you are SO right about Irish websites...so many are terribly unprofessional looking with piss poor user interface and lack a lot of important details. Also, many businesse here don't even have websites! I really wonder why that is.
Hi Patty! I recommend using a pet relocation service to bring your dogs back and forth. It is very expensive, but I would hate to make mistakes along the WAy because I missed something. I live in California and am using a a pet relocation service based out of Colorado (a referral from a friend). I'm relocating two cats and it is about $4,000 total for me to move them. That's inclusive of their flights, relocation service fees, and customs fees. I've spent another $400 on brand new airline approved crates and vet visits. My situation is particularly expensive ...
... this option because it will be a non-stop 7 hour flight. Not a huge fan of the estimated cost I WAs quoted! Over $1,000. Or the idea of renting a car and doing the drive. 1. Am I missing a better option 2. Anyone have a dog fly out of Chicago?
Also wondering if anyone has any advice on the Annex IV Form. My vet said that they are an approved USDA vet so does that mean I don't have to send the form away? It WAs easier to get my citizenship then it is to fill out this form 😉
I have a really stupid question! im looking at the west Coast as a possible home.
all the areas we found and like are in Gaeltacht areas.
We spoke to an estate agent who told us not worry as english WAs spoken as well.
I'm from Ireland and studied Gaelic in school (a lot forgotten, too much vino over the years), but my wife is English.
Im hoping to return and learn Irish, but my fear is being left out of local society, irrational i know.
Has anybody else moved to a Gaeltacht? and if you have, any advise please?
Hello Everyone and Liam,
like most of your subscribers have pointed out this forum has been an excellent source of information. My husband and I are in the process of making the move to Ireland. His maternal grandparents were both from Ireland, so we are aiming to make the move based on Irish Heritage. I am in the process of doing some genealogy and applying for citizenship?
I am also reading the resources pages, forums, etc. We are coming from One island (Big Island of Hawaii) to quite a different island. I have quite a lot of reading to do in preparation, but looking forward it.
For now, I am interested in the weather. We are looking to live in Western Ireland, along the Wild Atlantic Coast...most resembling my current island home.
Thanks again. Look forward to learning more about Ireland.
Tami
Hey everyone. Name is Jackie and myself (American) and my fiance (Irish) are planning a fall move to west Coast (Co. Clare) Ireland to be closer to his mother. Looking forward to chatting with you all and mining this site for all the information I didn't even realized I needed!
hi everyone! My name is Leigh and my husband and I are interested in moving to the west Coast of Ireland. We've been multiple times and have found a few areas that we love, but are unsure about real estate agents? Are they like the ones here in the US, where you talk to someone, you tell them what you are looking for and they will send you homes via e-mail? Or do you just go on daft and talk to multiple people? What's the best WAy?
I WAs born in Ireland, but have lived most of my life in the UK. Now that I have retired, my wife and I would like to move back to live in Ireland. Before we purchase a property, however, we would like to rent for perhaps 6-9 months to enable us to get a feel for different areas. We plan to concentrate our property search in Cork and Kerry, and would like to be as close as possible to the west Coast. We need to find a property to rent (two of us plus a dog) from August of this year, but most of the rentals on the major websites (daft, myhome, etc) are outside ...
Liam, thank you for the shipping cost info, that is most helpful. We are moving from the East Coast and my husband WAs given a quote of about $1500 earlier this year. I WAs not aware that we would also have a destination fee in Ireland so will have to factor that in.
David, I love your grandparents entrepreneurship... what a great WAy to cover your vacation costs.
Kelsey, I found some information on VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) and transfer of residence here:
My feeling is that you could not bring a leased car, but could bring a car that you have a ...
Making the move next June. The plan WAs to move later this year, but we WAnt to travel Australia and New Zealand for 3 months early next year, so we postpone Ireland till June next year. Also, if would be nice to Settle in during the summer months.
Born and raise in Ca and Mexican food is on the top of the list. Tomatillo for salsa verde and cilantro are on my list to plant. Also, to make friends with a butcher that can cut tri tip. WAlked into a butcher and he had no clue what a tri tip cut WAs. I guess it's a west Coast thing.
Thing I will try and fit ...
