Thank you for your response. The link to the service that you used for moving WAs removed. Would you please resend it?
I finally made it to Dublin with cat #1. I will return to Cali for cat #2 in January. I definitely need to make moving arrangements for a few pieces.
I hope that you and yours are Set to enjoy a lovely Christmas holiday!

... just throw on a jumper and continues to WAlk their dogs or go for a run. Here in Ca they even the slightest mist people think the day is ruined
Liam, how often do you go to America? My husband just pointed out that another reason it would be easier to move to Ireland is more vacation- so more time to visit family (as opposed to me having only 2 weeks a year here). I think childcare everywhere cost a lot, but it seems as if Ireland has more benefits (free daycare, better public school, gp under 6 years) which is something we have to consider since we do pla ...
... difficulty getting a 40 foot container right to your door. When my shipment arrived in Ireland from the states, the individual pallets were send to a central WArehouse via 'large' truck (with other goods). From there I had to go and collect it (and unpack it from the pallets) and put it on a much smaller truck to get it to my door. In hindsight I wish I had paid movers to bring it to my door, but they would've still had to have done the same. There is no WAy a large container truck can get to most housing estates, or suburb areas without breaking down the c ...

I'm going to keep it easy and just ask for 1 - 3 suggestions. Here are mine:
1. I'm going to go with a Cork theme as this is the City I am most familiar with. The first place I think everyone living in Cork should know of is Fitzgerald's Park, which runs along the River Lee near UCC. Whether you like a nice casual stroll, a great place for your kids to play, a nice place to read a book under a tree or a place to catch an occasional outdoor performance, Fitzgerald's park won ...

Thanks for responding. Good to hear you are adjusting to being home. I too plan to move to Kerry, it's a small world. Thanks for the advice on bringing more stuff home with me- it has been on my mind! I have now engaged a financial planner over here to see how I can be optimally Set up when I get to Ireland. I will plan to work there too before I retire as I am still too young to retire.
Sounds like you had been in CA for over two decades, same here. Wishing you luck with the driver's test and with the ongoing adjustment to being home. It sure is a big decision! Regards.
I'm planning on selling my old car in the US before moving over (it has 250K on it, so it's time, even if I WAsn't relocating), and I'm thinking about what I WAs going to do in terms of transportation in Ireland. My first thought WAs simply to buy a lightly used hybrid, and when I WAs looking at Cars.ie, this seemed affordable. But in looking into things further, the reality of the 23% value added tax, plus other taxes and fees Set in, and it looks like owning a car there is *very* expensive unless I get a vehicle with a lot of mileage on it.
Plus, I'm ther ...
Hey Nick, Fairly recently, there WAs a change to the rules for pet moves to Ireland. Until that point, pet relocation companies were a requirement, and all pets had to go through Dublin. I've had confirmation from another mover on here, that that is no longer the case. However, if you arrive into Ireland as your first port of entry in to the EU, then you still need to go through the Lissenhall vet check in Dublin.
Aer Lingus, have long been an approved carrier, but generally it's down to the individual airlines whether they will transport pets or not. Vari ...
Hello, dear compatriots. I have my dual Irish citizenship and passport so don’t have to concern myself with visas and the like. I will be relocating in the coming months from the US. I don't expect, but not certain, that I will end up permanently residing in Ireland. I have a budget that is better suited for less economically robust countries. However I know there are official/legal issues I must work out prior to living elsewhere in the EU. For instance, banking and financial representation. Also, medical health affiliations and associated documents and cards (I depend on a medication after having my thyroid removed). Must I have established residence prior to gaining access to these services? Anything I can accomplish before I Set out abroad? Anything any one could contribute to answering would be greatly appreciated. Or point me in the right direction?
I plan on a month (is that sufficient?) in Dublin (or is another City ok for getting things done?) before Setting out to explore other EU options. If I feel at home in Eire perhaps I’ll stay put! I’m an artist and perhaps ‘The Dole’ would be an enticement. Thanks
Hello,
I am Liz and I am interested in learning more about remote working in Ireland. I have a particular skill Set that allows me to consult and do Skilled contract work. Interestingly, the fields/roles that I work in are also referenced 4 times in the “skilled workers” list. Has anyone on the forum moved to Ireland under similar circumstances? Did you go through the skilled worker interview process or were you able to show gainful self employment?
thank you in advance!
My Wife and I will be moving to Ireland from Denver.
The bedroom furniture in question WAs built here in Colorado, where the Humidity is around 10-15%.
Is this furniture with its many Drawers even worth bringing to The Humid climate of Ireland?
Its a 17 year old bedroom Set and I know some swelling will occur I just don't know how bad it will be.It WAs about $6000 17 years ago and probably worth little to anyone else.We would give it away for free more than likely.
Anyone out there regret bringing Furniture with them to Ireland,or should I still consider ...
