The IRS regards it as global reach for assets owned or co-owned by US citizens. Ireland has had Full sharing of data on assets even before FATCA which requires banks to report the information directly.
One of the corollaries of FATCA is it applies to all accounts a US citizen may benefit from. One of the examples I ran across WAs a business person who WAs not a US citizen. Even though they had a separate account the IRS WAnted FATCA reporting on it because it WAs part of the estate the spouse who WAs a citizen might inherit.

Glad to see we have your Full support for the Euros 🙂 You enjoying the games?
I recommend going back to the Garda and have some very clear questions that you WAnt answers to. For one, ask what exact steps do you need to take to get your Stamp 4. There should be a clearly defined process you can follow? Otherwise your entry stamp will expire, and you'll have other issues to deal with.
I don't see why you should be treated any differently just because Kate is Italian. According to INIS you fall in to the "non-EEA family member of EEA citizen"
It's not something that you'd WAnt to rush through really. For one, you need to submit your passport (and spouses) along with the application for residency. That'll take a bit of time to receive back. Read the Full details here in the INIS site
Hi all I recently got my learners permit in January and on 21st January the law WAs changed to only require 6 driving lessons rather than 12. You have to apply for a WAiver though so do that once you get your permit. The request for a reduction in lessons is now on a form that you print, sign and mail off. Also on the same form is the request for a WAiver of 6 months of required driving before you can obtain your Full license. I mailed off my WAiver request on a Tuesday and received back my approval on the following Wednesday.
Word of caution: many driv ...
... for a US-based company. I’m interested in moving to Ireland for a year or two, mostly for tourism and sightseeing. I plan to continue working for this US-based company, so I’ll have a consistent revenue stream each month (my income is over the 50,000 euro annual minimum listed). Maintaining this online work from the US (I plan to maintain my US address and bank account, so it's easy for my company to deposit my funds. My bank account is entirely online, so accessing these funds from abroad is easy). My savings that I could liquidate, in an emergency, come t ...
Hi everyone.
We are returning to Ireland in August after 10 years in Dubai. We have 10 years driving experience and Full no claims bonus statement. We are finding it difficult to get a insurance that will consider our driver experience here in Dubai. This despite a protocol by Insurance Ireland and the Government posted here on their website:
I have made contact with them and they weren't really able to help. They asked some questions and said they would try but I have not heard any more from them.
Has anyone have experience of getting a quote that is reasonable and the name of an insurance company that could help?
Cheers.
Hi Tanya,
I personally can't give you a recommendation as I've never leased a car for that long. Based on normal rental costs, the number you said above seems ok to me, but I know it's a lot of money. Does that include insurance? I'm guessing if it does, it's basic, and not Full coverage. Insurance in Ireland on rentals is not cheap!
I hear good things about dan dooley rental. No affiliation, just positive reviews etc. They do have a long term rental inquiry form if you're interested.
Maybe renting on an as-needed basis might be a better option, e.g. if you're looking to get out sightseeing for a weekend here and there. Depending on where you are, public transport might suit most your needs.
Megan,
Even as EU citizens there are still conditions of residency when living in Ireland. Essentially you can live freely for a period of time, but after that period you must be employed, or self-sufficient. This prevents people from showing up and claiming social welfare payments for extended periods of time.
I'll let you read the Full details here
Re: farmers markets. You'll find them everywhere. Locally grown produce is a big deal in Ireland. You'll find a comprehensive listing of markets on Bord Bia at
@cfinegan anyone who needs more than the 3 free hours will need to pay to have the rest of the day covered. The scheme only provides 3 hours per day which obviously creates a dilemma when both parents have Full time jobs.
And what I've learned - if I were to repeat the experience, I wouldn't ship unless I had a Full container load. Those ship more efficiently. I probably would have been more inclined to leave almost everything in storage had I known what a headache/cost it would be, but with three children, that WAs tough to do. And I would have better researched the shipping company (a task left to my husband and he chose based on the salesperson's persistence, as he assumed that would be a reflection of decent customer service... it WAs obviously not the case).
