Electrical Appliances:
Hi All,
As I sort out what to take and what to give away before packing the 20 ft. container I hope to fill, I am curious about what electrical appliances I should/could take. Does anyone know what it would take to take, say, a printer, record player, etc and adapt them for use in Ireland? I know that a simple adaptor plug won't work but if there's a feasible WAy of doing it without rewiring the House I'd be interested.
Thanks
Kevin
Hi Danielle,
Yes, he will need proof of address too. Your name won't work on it's own. The lease would be ideal, but if you'd prefer to keep his name off the lease, then a utility bill in his name (both is good too) should suffice. Make it a something that is tied to the House though e.g. an electric bill, internet bill etc, as opposed to something like a mobile phone bill.

Hi John
I reached out to a past contributor on the site. He is a Managing Director of a moving company based in Ireland. I think you will find his answer to your question quite useful. I'll post it below here. Let me know if you WAnt me to put you in touch. ~Liam

Buying a container and shipping it as user owner is certainly possible. If he WAnts that option there should be no reason why he can’t find a mover or a freight company to co-ordinate that for him. After clearance on this side, we (potentially we) would arrange haulage from the port with a ...
Hi Folks!I just WAnted to write and thank you so much for all your information. We have been in Ireland for just over two months now, (March 2019) and we are on Stamp O, made so much easier by all the information here. First, the list of all the extra things needed, not listed on the INIS website, WAs a godsend. We had background checks from a website, and we included a letter from our local chief of police. we included our marriage certificate and our birth and baptismal certificates. We hired an Irish accountant, referred to my by a friend, who looked at o ...
... This is NOT true. You need to be on the ground in Ireland to apply. (Canadians - something Different) The legal documents clearly state that you need to be in the country. And since you need to register in person within a strict number of days upon approval - not possible if you are outside the country.
BUT - you should prepare all your documents/application PRIOR to coming to Ireland. Some items will be Difficult to get once in Ireland. (you are running against the 90day visa limit)
I prepared everything prior such that as soon as I landed I WAs able t ...
I no longer live in Cork, Zelimir. Housing all over Ireland has been a hot topic in recent years. Availability of rentals and Houses to buy has been low, and of course prices have risen too. Have you been in touch with any letting agencies and/or real estate agents? It might be good to start getting in touch with those types of people early to give yourself the best chance at finding something that suits your needs.
... been in Colorado USA for the past three+ decades. We are both Disturbed by the current political and cultural climate in the states. I have always had a deep desire to live by the sea (Colorado has many fine qualities-- but no sea!). We're looking at a possible move to Ireland as a WAy to address both these things.I'm particularly looking at a move to Northern Ireland in the Bangor/ Donaghadee area. Why? My criteria for an "ideal locale" are #1) by the sea! ideally I can see it from my House. Or at least be within a minute or two WAlk. #2) a town that is s ...
Hi Liam
I'm trying with AIB right now and they appear to have a more flexible approach towards returning immigrants. I'm in the exact situation as yourself - you would think it would be a no brainer.
We are raiding our 401k (expensive) to reduce the loan amount dramatically. Still no guarantees but we'll have to do it to make us a more attractive lending prospect I think. We're keeping our House here and we have a small 3 bed semi in a Different part of Ireland that has a small mortgage on it but is rented out. We're not the most straightforward situation either which is giving me huge anxiety and nightmares! AIB said I'd have to produce at least one payslip in Ireland before they release the mortgage. I can possibly finagle that with my company (start me before I go versus after I get there) but I have a few fine lines I'm crossing it seems.
Sure it's all part of the adventure I suppose (more Tums please).
I'll post how I get on with AIB in case it's useful for any new returners.
Thanks
Pauline
I'm Peter, and I have just been accepted as a MSc student at NUI, Galway! I'm very excited to complete my education and liver overseas for the first time! However, a bit of reality is setting in as I look into the realities and logistics of the move.
By WAy of background, I'm a community college instructor and lab technician, in the specialized field of microscopy and biological imaging. I love what I do, but am a bit underemployed due to my lack of an advanced degree. It has been my plan for the last few years to put my House on the market, pay off my debt ...
Hello all,
Me and my boyfriend (Stefan) of 8 years are Canadian citizens with three children aged 6, 4 and 2. Because of Stefan's father being a German national when he WAs born here in Canada, Stefan WAs entitled to have dual German/Canadian citizenship, as well as our three children. I have WAnted to move to Ireland for a very long time, and at this time, there seems to be a lot of construction (house framing jobs) available and he's had a couple of solid offers. All that being said, can he just arrive in Ireland and work like that? He's not Irish obv ...
