... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation. About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...

US Postal Service to Ireland worked well (May 2016)

... Priority Mail. This is the least expensive option that the USPS offers to Ireland, with a 66 LBS maximum weight. That heaviest Box would cost about $250. $200 insurance comes with that, and you can add up to $450 more insured value for a small insurance fee. The postage fee is by weight but there is a max size limit (109 inches girth plus height, I think. Our Boxes were 18" cubes, "heavy duty medium" from Lowes or Home Depot). It comes out to about $44 for an empty Box, and everything in it is about $2/lb extra. For one high-value Box with lots of electroni ...

Claudia, I could see how that would make the unpacking process a little painful. I did number each Box and wrote a brief description of each Box on a piece of paper and emailed that to myself. In addition my movers numbered and barcoded each Box for tracking purposes. It's possibly something to insist on. @tcduffy98

Carole, The Order in which you describe things make most sense. It's a catch 22 with the address a lot of times, so if you have a rental agreement in place, that should work for the needs in #3. A job offer letter may work too. It's totally at the discretion of the landlord/agency as to whether they will lease to you without a job in place. 3rd parties almost definitely won't allow this. A private landlord might, but it's unlikely. There are short term housing options too. You could go down that route in the short term.

... 3) set up PPS, bank account, mobile phone (all need an address) Is this right? Ideally I WAnt to be looking at places to live at the same time as interviewing for work - will it be possible to sign a lease without a permanent job finalised? I have enough savings to cover the rent and can do temp work if necessary in the interim (I’m looking at senior roles - Sales/business development director level - but it may take a few weeks for the right opportunity to come up). I’m British so don’t need a work permit. Thanks in advance for any advice

RE: Shipping an oddly sized container to Ireland

@harpchic42 Hi Tanya, you can probably ship it in a hard container - something like a wooden Box with inside padding. That Box can then be shipped as part of a larger shipment with other people's things. Oops, just re-reading your post...if you're only staying 3 months, you'd be there and back before your shipment arrives most likely. I'd check with FedEx/UPS etc for international rates and options. I'm sure you're not the first person to ship something large internationally.

Hi! Any advice on moving approximately 20 Boxes of personal effects? USPS will be around $100 per Box. Need to know how to fill out US postal form so as not to pay Irish import taxes too. Thank you, mary pat

Bunny Life In Ireland

Hi! We have a pet bunny and would like to bring him with us on our move. We've researched the documentation that we will need prior to moving him, but we are wondering if rabbits are a common pet in Ireland. Will we be able to find vets that can work with him? Will we be able to find rabbit food and hay (he uses hay in his litter Box)? Here in the US, we have local "House Rabbit Societies" where we can purchase all of his supplies, and they will board him when we travel. Are there places like this in Ireland?

hi my name is Ronan originally from Ireland and living in Vancouver working as a mechanic, thinking of moving home but WAnted to bring my tools and tool Box, some of my furniture and possibly a car if it WAsn't to much hassle, it would be a track car so not one for driving on the road, WAs thinking of arranging a 20 ft container but hard to choose a company that you can trust, any company names ? does anybody know if I have to pay custom fees entering Ireland?the fact they are my own personal tools and not for resale, and my car won't be driven on the road ...

Hi Ashley - great question! I have moved Boxes to and from the US via regular mail. It WAsn't a hassle free experience, but mainly due to the number of Boxes I sent (~30). You'll have a very restrictive Box dimension criteria to work with, and the weight is also a big consideration too. One of other forum members here WAs gracious enough to post about this a while back. I'd suggest reading what she had to say:
