... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation.
About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...
Carole,
The Order in which you describe things make most sense. It's a catch 22 with the address a lot of times, so if you have a rental agreement in place, that should work for the needs in #3. A job offer letter may work too.
It's totally at the discretion of the landlord/agency as to whether they will lease to you without a job in place. 3rd parties almost definitely won't allow this. A private landlord might, but it's unlikely. There are short term housing options too. You could go down that route in the short term.

3) set up PPS, bank account, mobile phone (all need an address)
Is this right? Ideally I WAnt to be looking at places to live at the same time as interviewing for work - will it be possible to sign a lease without a permanent job finalised? I have enough savings to cover the rent and can do temp work if necessary in the interim (I’m looking at senior roles - Sales/business development director level - but it may take a few weeks for the right opportunity to come up). I’m British so don’t need a work permit.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Were those the standard square pallets or the long rectangular ones? How do you figure the space you used would compare to a 20 foot shipping container? (5.598mx2.325mx2.39m / 19'4"x7"8'x7'10" Interior dimensions)
Hello everyone!
My name is Pat and I am relocating from Northern California. With a name like Pat Egan, I am certain that you will see that I am of Irish descent. Other family names include Comerford, Daw, and Kenneally. Most recent relative WAs my great grandmother, Margaret Comerford, from Co Tipperary. I cannot apply via Irish descent because law allows only children and grandchildren to take that approach.
I have already submitted my Stamp 0 application via a solicitor. An Irish CFA prepared my financial application. I wrote a personal statement and pr ...
Hi Liam and thank you for the great site 🙂
My wife and I are planning to move to Dublin in the next few months from the UK as British Citizens to escape the madness of Brexit.
I'm really looking for anyone's experience of finding the their Apartment/house and how to deal with landlords. Specifically I would like to know how people initially pay for a deposit, ie Cash/Bank transfer etc. I'm in the process of setting up a KBC Basic Current account for direct debits, standing Orders etc but I can't find any solid information on how deposits/up front rent is normally paid. Would I be expected when looking for an Apartment to be carry 4000 euros in cash?
Many Thanks
Giles
Hey guys! We're planning to move to Dublin in a few months and I WAnt to know how should I choose the neighbourhood & the elementary school for my 8-years-old son. In the UK, a kid has priority for a seat if he's living in the school neighbourhood. Is it the same in Ireland? I'm not sure how to choose the school & the area to find an Apartment.
Hi - I'm planning to move from New York to Dublin in January and have a few questions:
- will I need to have paperwork with my shipment that show proof of residency and/or employment? (I will be flying there when my shipment leaves so will have Apartment ready by the time the vessel arrives and then I can advise of the address to deliver to; and my job may not be finalised by then either - will that be ok as I'm British and can legally move to Ireland without these things, or will it be an issue for my belongings coming from the US?)
- any recommendations for relocation companies from people who've taken this NYC to Dublin route?
Many thanks
This is an incredibly random question, but as I notice all the newish baby gear my son is about to outgrow, and the furniture we've accumulated already, how does one unload secondhand goods in Ireland? As we moved from Tucson, we sold most of our possessions via Craigslist, and I know when we move from Ireland we will be unloading most everything we own again. When we moved into this Apartment it would appear the previous tenants just outright abandoned everything (including vhs tapes, broken small appliances, knick knacks... basically enough to fill the backyard shed, we didn't know what to do).
Just thought of another tip re: US cell phone number.
When I WAs in the US I had T-Mobile with the plan where I can touch down pretty much in any major country around the world and text US numbers for free (i.e. part of my regular bill, doesn't cost me extra) and use unlimited 3G internet. I WAs relying on this when I landed in Dublin since it took me a bit to get a SIM card (my iPhone WAsn't unlocked ugh).
So I WAs delaying cancelling my T-Mobile plan, for my US number, until I had updated all of my online accounts for my new Ireland phone number.
Probl ...
