... be paid out of pocket. New WAter charges, a relatively new property tax, TV license fee etc.
Here's some of the text of my most recent conversation with @soju4321 who's concerned about the cost of living in Ireland:
soju4321: "Coming from CA and living in Ireland, how comparable are the cost of living/monthly expenses between the two? E.G. Rent/utilizes/car insurance (transportation) / medical insurance?
What scares me is all other expenses in Ireland such as coal. In CA we hardly use the Heater during the winter. Tv tax, owner credit card and back accoun ...
Is the lawn mower Gas or electric? If Gas, you may run into restrictions on moving it unless thoroughly prepared. If electric, are you coming from the UK or somewhere else? If somewhere else, if corded, probably not. If it uses a rechargeable battery, you should see if the manufacturer makes a charger suitable for connecting to power in Ireland.
Compared to the UK where property tax starts at over £1,000 plus WAter Rates the cost of property tax in Ireland is under 10% of UK costs.
Heating and lighting is about the same although both countries have increased a lot in recent years. We still use Wood and Coal but then we are in a traditional cottage out in the wilds and 12 miles from the nearest bus stop.
Road Tax in the UK caps at around £200 for a road car which is about where Irish road tax starts. Insurance (car) is a little cheaper in Ireland. We drive a lot more over here than most folk in the ...
Hello,
We've been trying to contact the relevant department using the email on their website as well as their phone line (which they have now declared on their website is disconnected) but to no avail. Hoping anyone that's gone through the process might be able to shed some light. We're applying based on marriage to an Irish citizen (applicant is from outside the EU).
The only clarification we need is with regards to the proof of residence (for both partners) for the previous 3 months requirement. Could something paid annually (like home insurance) be used to satisfy one of the proofs or does it have to be a bill/payment that is issued monthly? Or bi-monthly?
This is the pargraph I'm referring to:"Copies of three different proofs of residence in the island of Ireland for both applicantand spouse/civil partner for 3 months prior to the date of application showing date andname and current address. Proofs include mortgage/rent agreement, household bills(gas, electricity, phone or cable/satellite TV), bank statements, revenue, mortgageagreement, social welfare, letter from employment, etc"
I would not WAnt to have a left hand drive car in Ireland. So much of driving is muscle memory, and in my opinion adjusting to driving on the left is FAR easier when your position in the car remains the same relative to the road. If that makes sense? You can't always be processing "drive on the other side", it's just not the kind of thing a well-trained driver brain does. I find that putting attention on my position relative to the road is easier. I concentrate on keeping my(right) elbow by the door pointed at the center line of the road, the same WAy I'd ...
Hi Steve/Mairead,
This is Alex, I have quick and easy question for you. Which mail did you show that has both of your names? Electric?, Internet bill? Gas? phone bill? Let me know. My case is exactly like yours. I'm the American my wife is Irish and we're about to move and register.
Thanks
trying to get the right balance of hot and cold WAter, is it? And then someone elsewhere in the house turns on another one, and ruins the balance 🙂
... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation.
About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...
... don't even consider licensing status of others in house!) expect to pay full coverage of 4,000 Euro a month for a lefthand drive --only Axa would give us coverage! Driver's license testing process $600+. Parking prices are very high in the cities, Gas high everywhere.
Car Issues: Automatics are much more expensive here and hard or impossible to find for many models. Most insurance companies WILL NOT cover lefthand drive cars (see Axa above)--BUT consider learning how to drive a manual with stick on the opposite side, a new car and new driving rules all at ...
... run www.ukrsa.com and as my business has already spread back to Ireland its probably just as easy to operate from Ireland as it is from the UK. I am originally from Dublin.
Below are "considerations" I am working through and if anyone has any advice based on actual experience, then I would be very pleased to listen.
Broadband - My business needs good Broadband connectivity. I know that there are plans to roll out fast Broadband across Ireland very soon but what is it like around Wexford? Is it different out in the more rural areas than in Wexford City?
