... We would be leasing our current property in the states while running the BnB in Ireland for at the very least a good 10 years.
From what I've read so far I don't see any restrictions about buying property as a foreigner but I can't find info about using the property itself as a business and living there while doing so.
We are not of Irish decent, have no current family in Ireland. So why Ireland? For me it's been a childhood dream to visit and live in Ireland. I became infatuated with ireland through literature, music, poetry, Film and my short stint of ...
... what worries me, what confuses me and how to go about job hunting 🙂
We are planning a move to Dublin next summer (probably August) and our biggest question right now is how easy it will be for my husband to get a job permit and a job. We are both currently employed but expect that it will be easier for him to get a job in Dublin while it might take longer for me. He is a solutions architect for a telecom company and has over ten years experience. I recently switched careers from nonprofit fundraising to public health. I graduated with a masters of public ...
Interesting that €50,000 per person per annum is higher than the average salary in Ireland. Quite frankly Ireland is implementing much the same policies that the UK has over the last 15 or so years. My opinion from the outside is they are making immigration from outside the EEA harder to try and Control numbers because they can't Control the EEA numbers.
Average salary WAs gathered from this article:
@xenophile thanks for the reply. I at least know I'm not alone here.
If it's OK, I'll check in with you next spring and see how your move is going.
From my research from afar, County Limerick and Limerick city will be my focus for looking for a place to live when I'm in Ireland this fall. But other than Dublin and probably Cork City (both too expensive), I'm not ruling any area out.
I'm hoping COVID stays more or less under Control and the global economy doesn't fall apart. Big dreams, I know.
Slan, more good luck to your family.

I will be moving to Ireland with my husband and three children at the beginning of August. My husband is an Irish citizen, and all three children have Irish passports. I have an American passport.
My question is whether I can fly to Ireland on a one-way ticket. Based on my research and previous visits, I feel confident that we shouldn't have any trouble with border Control in Dublin, but I've read that the airline on the US side may require that I have a return ticket. Has anyone had experience with this?
Thank you!
I have not been through the Chunnel but my understanding is border Controls are done in Calais by UK border Control. UK is not part of the Schengen Agreement, nor is Ireland. It is possible that they could maintain a common movement area.
The biggest question comes down to what the UK can negotiate and whether or not Brussels will sign off on them or try to punish the UK.
EU countries can put more restrictions on their own citizens for family reunification. So for the UK my spouse and children are not UK citizens. I think one of the other forum participants said that Denmark WAs more restrictive for their non-EU spouse than any other EU country would be.
Enda Kenny has stated border Control would probably be needed. (was reported in several UK and Irish news sources after his comments at a recent GAA match in London). There is also a UK document on that as well -
... This is NOT true. You need to be on the ground in Ireland to apply. (Canadians - something different) The legal documents clearly state that you need to be in the country. And since you need to register in person within a strict number of days upon approval - not possible if you are outside the country.
BUT - you should prepare all your documents/application PRIOR to coming to Ireland. Some items will be difficult to get once in Ireland. (you are running against the 90day visa limit)
I prepared everything prior such that as soon as I landed I WAs able t ...
Hello all,
I've read this forum for a while and found it very helpful, but only now found the need to post.
My partner (Australian) arrives in the country in 2 days, we marry on March 18th (I am Irish), and our plan WAs to go to our local immigration officer (Roscommon) shortly after to be stamped with a stamp 4 granted all documents are ok (we have them all ready to go).
I contacted the local immigration officer earlier today (and I have shared emails with him before), and he has said that since she will arrive in the country on a tourist basis initially ...
Liam,
I think I know the abortion cases you are referring to, which I agree that the doctors have very little Control over. What I meant with the maternity failings had to do with the deaths of babies where the staff were unable to read/understand the equipment that monitored the babies heartbeats. Here is a link to an article:
It looks like a very isolated incident, but I WAs just curious.
Agreed! Here is to good health!
