Hullo,
As the title suggests my wife and I are looking to buy a property in Ireland and take over a current Bed and Breakfast business(where we would live and be hosts to the guests). I see a lot of options about tech startups for moving over but what about in this type of scenario? We would be leasing our current property in the states while running the BnB in Ireland for at the very least a good 10 years.
From what I've read so far I don't see any restrictions about buying property as a foreigner but I can't find info about using the property itself as a business and living there while doing so.
We are not of Irish decent, have no current family in Ireland. So why Ireland? For me it's been a childhood dream to visit and live in Ireland. I became infatuated with ireland through literature, music, poetry, film and my short stint of study with theatre. My best friend's family is from Irish decent and that only further propelled my infatuation and wanderlust for Ireland.
I appreciate it if you've made it this far and hope to find some resources or info that might help us in our adventure.
Hi Ryan
There are options available for investing in Ireland. I covered 3 of them in the blog post linked here, including the immigrant investor program, Start-Up Entrepreneur Program and Business Permission.
Thanks for the reply. The link in 3.Business Permission isn't loading.
Thanks, it seems as though they have closed that particular avenue http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP09000013
I do no think operating a B&B is an approved business type for immigration purposes but I could be wrong. Perhaps if you were able to prove jobs were created or saved. There have been a number of changes to Ireland's immigration policy especially for non-EEA people and entrepreneurs. Check out this link for possibly the latest information:
And keep in mind that this information may be outdated.
Good luck.
