Hi! Any advice on moving approximately 20 Boxes of personal effects? USPS will be around $100 per Box. Need to know how to fill out US postal form so as not to pay Irish import taxes too. Thank you, mary pat
Hi!
We have a pet bunny and would like to bring him with us on our move. We've researched the documentation that we will need prior to moving him, but we are wondering if rabbits are a common pet in Ireland. Will we be able to find vets that can work with him? Will we be able to find rabbit food and hay (he uses hay in his litter Box)? Here in the US, we have local "House Rabbit Societies" where we can purchase all of his supplies, and they will board him when we travel. Are there places like this in Ireland?
... there are some options for Box trucks. For example vanrentals.ie have some for rent that you can use a regular car license for e.g. You might WAnt to call ahead to see if they'll accept a US license.
You're certainly right that you could save a lot by dropping the shipment off and picking it up. I explored all options too, and ended up going with door to port service. The pickup location in Ireland WAs local so I didn't need to worry too much about the cost of returning the truck (petrol, time, mileage, insurance etc). You might WAnt to weigh that up be ...
... a 12-hour journey across the Atlantic. I thus broke up travel plans, as follows:
Domestic: United Airlines charged $125 pet Fee to book flight, nonstop, from SMF>EWR. Motel 6 offers pet-friendly lodging near EWR.
International: Delta booked my cat, in-cabin, and provided dimensions for pet carrier as required for the air CRAFT type. I returned to my reservations and found NOTHING about my cat, etc. When I called Delta, a note had been added to my reservation that NO IN-CABIN travel allowed for my cat. Cancelled entire reservation, with promise to write ...
hi my name is Ronan originally from Ireland and living in Vancouver working as a mechanic, thinking of moving home but WAnted to bring my tools and tool Box, some of my furniture and possibly a car if it WAsn't to much hassle, it would be a track car so not one for driving on the road, WAs thinking of arranging a 20 ft container but hard to choose a company that you can trust, any company names ? does anybody know if I have to pay custom Fees entering Ireland?the fact they are my own personal tools and not for resale, and my car won't be driven on the road ...
Hi Ashley - great question! I have moved Boxes to and from the US via regular mail. It WAsn't a hassle free experience, but mainly due to the number of Boxes I sent (~30). You'll have a very restrictive Box dimension criteria to work with, and the weight is also a big consideration too.
One of other forum members here WAs gracious enough to post about this a while back. I'd suggest reading what she had to say:
Not every solicitor will demand a consultation Fee in order to answer a few immigration questions but most do require it. Different from the US where an attorney WAnts to sell YOU their expertise before money is exchanged. How do you know if the solicitor is any good unless you speak with them beforehand? This is just one of the many differences been doing business in Ireland vs. the US. Would a job seeker ask for payment from the company before an interview? That's kinda the right analogy.
Anyway, Stamp 0 is a pretty esoteric process and I doubt an immigra ...
Given the wealth of info we have on this topic here, I figured it'd be a good idea to capture all costs associated with Stamp 0 in one thread.
Archer WAs looking for info on this topic on another thread, which is what got me thinking to start this one.
At present there is no application Fee as such. You compile the list of required docs, and send them off with a cover letter to the appropriate mailing address.
The main Fee that people are incurring is the cost of retaining an accountancy service. The INIS insists that your financial eligibility ...

your #3. that Fee is the case for people in your position. Among others, for spouses of Irish citizens, that Fee is WAived. More info here
your #4. that's cool 🙂 However, it's probably still in your best interests to apply as early into your arrival as possible.
You mentioned your other posts...they are very useful. Here's is a link to everything you have posted on the forum.
Thanks again for always coming back and updating us with new info as you find it. Enjoy your well deserved time in Ireland.

Also, you may WAnt to get clarification on exactly what is and what is not covered in your expense. As an example of something I WAsn't aware of when I paid for my shipping Fees, I WAs charged a Fee of 130 Euro by the company in Ireland who received my items (more info). Megan had an even worse example where her items were held hostage until a Fee WAs paid for a change of address (if I recall correctly). The change of address WAs an error on the shipping company's fault.
I don't WAnt to sound pessimistic, but it's good t ...
