Hello Everyone and Liam, like most of your subscribers have pointed out this forum has been an excellent source of information. My husband and I are in the process of making the move to Ireland. His maternal grandparents were both from Ireland, so we are aiming to make the move based on Irish Heritage. I am in the process of doing some genealogy and applying for citizenship? I am also reading the resources pages, forums, etc. We are coming from One island (Big Island of Hawaii) to quite a different island. I have quite a lot of reading to do in preparation, but looking forward it. For now, I am interested in the weather. Hello, Preparing for our moving to Ireland in February. Just Set up an Irish bank account, and they mentioned we need to start building credit history, and that getting a car loan right away WAsn't likely. More like we'd need to build credit for a year or so before a car loan or mortgage would be possible. Anyone else have experience with that? Is it true? I'm wondering if my US credit history does any good, or if a car dealer will be willing to help you out if you give a good size downpayment. Thanks. Kevin

Thanks for the reply! I have read through that thread, Kelsey's info WAs just about invaluable. Nobody really mentioned the finance thing that I saw? so just needed to double check. Hopefully it hasn't changed, and won't change anytime soon! My move is planned for around a year from now, so just trying to work out what I need to Set in motion now. Hi everyone, My husband and I will be moving to Ireland in a few weeks. We plan to stay at an Airbnb for a while until we get Set up in Dublin. We have an appointment for INIS registration soon after we arrive. My question is: how can we show evidence of our joint address if we are staying at an Airbnb? Would a letter from the owner of the property stating that we are staying there for a month be enough? Or would we have to find permanent accommodation before attending the appointment? Making the move next June. The plan WAs to move later this year, but we WAnt to travel Australia and New Zealand for 3 months early next year, so we postpone Ireland till June next year. I guess it's one of those cultural differences, right? I think Irish people in general wouldn't bat an eyelid at sending their kid off. My brother and I have kids the same age. He is far more adventurous in terms of what his kids are allowed to do. I guess my US experiences have shaped how I am with my kids. I don't think I actually defined what the Gaeltacht is for you. The Gaeltacht areas are typically found along the west Coast of Ireland, and in Cork too. There areas that have a significant proportion of Irish-speaking people. Essentially native speakers. What your child would experience, is not just the school activities, but the idea of being immersed in a society where Irish is spoken in day-to-day life too. More info:
