Depending on what type of Visa you are applying for you may need to keep health insurance.
For reference of participants not in the US or California. Covered California is the HealthCare Exchange for California, and while I don't know their specific issues, I do know that there have been reports of limited number of doctors, and plans not matching what they were described as.
If you don't file taxes you can be barred from entering the US, have your Passport revoked, estimated taxes Set by IRS, and because of FATCA, FBAR, and some reciprocal agreements between countries there are collection options for the IRS even in Ireland.
... for a US-based company. I’m interested in moving to Ireland for a year or two, mostly for tourism and sightseeing. I plan to continue working for this US-based company, so I’ll have a consistent revenue stream each month (my income is over the 50,000 euro annual minimum listed). Maintaining this online work from the US (I plan to maintain my US address and bank account, so it's easy for my company to deposit my funds. My bank account is entirely online, so accessing these funds from abroad is easy). My savings that I could liquidate, in an emergency, come t ...

I'm planning on selling my old car in the US before moving over (it has 250K on it, so it's time, even if I WAsn't relocating), and I'm thinking about what I WAs going to do in terms of transportation in Ireland. My first thought WAs simply to buy a lightly used hybrid, and when I WAs looking at Cars.ie, this seemed affordable. But in looking into things further, the reality of the 23% value added tax, plus other taxes and fees Set in, and it looks like owning a car there is *very* expensive unless I get a vehicle with a lot of mileage on it.
Plus, I'm ther ...

You will have to move over first to meet the criteria, even for Credit Unions these days. Its not a problem I still have a UK account registered at my Daughters that handles some standing order commitments there.
Check what your bank (UK) charges for ATM withdrawals in € and work the best WAy of sorting that. My Halifax account WAs great when it charged £0.50 per transaction but it now charges a Set fee + a % which makes it terrible for transfers.
You will also have to sort out the pension payments once you have opened an Irish account.
I'm pretty sure you must move to Ireland first, as banks require an Irish address in order to Set up an account.
i can tell you. because it is happening right now to us.
my father in law passed this morning.
we are going to ireland tomorrow. (we only just got back from there.)
a credit card and the internet (and a lift to the airport) is all you need in case of emergency. thankfully it can be Set up quickly these days. it might be ridiculous that i am typing this now, but i am stuffing pizza into my face in front of my ipad while i WAit for the laundry so i can finish packing. it has been quite a day.
Hi again
Just an update on moving my pet dog Murphy to Ireland. I have booked his flight through IAGCargo in Chicago which handles pet transportation for Aer Lingus, BA, Iberia, etc and seems very good. The man there to talk to is Tom. He's very attentive and answered all my concerns patiently and reassuringly and his contact details are:
Tom Sidorowicz (Senior Customer Service Agent) AVI Product Specialist, British Airways/Iberia Cargo, Toll free: 18885784806
I have had to buy a crate and there are all sorts of specifications for this but the main one is length (so the dog can turn round in the crate) and height (so that the dog can stand upright with clearance for his/her ears). This cost me about $200 as it's X-Large. Murphy's a Standard Poodle so is tall and long. He will be picked up at Lissenhall Clinic near Dublin airport once his Pet Passport has been checked and once he's deemed to be fit and healthy. The flight will cost $1900. This is based on crate size and weight from what I can gather. They don't accept credit cards-just cash/cheque and you pay at the desk when you check your pet in. You can only book his flight 2 weeks before travelling and this creates a little bit of stress as ytou can't be certain there's space etc. He has to be examined by a vet here in US no more than 5 days and no less than 1 day before travelling. This is when he gets his Pet Passport. The vets seem to know what's required of them but I am talking the checklist along. I have already Set up the crate and Murphy loves it so I'm hoping there'll be no reluctance to get in it when he travels. I'll be glad when it's all done 😉 I'll update the community 'from the other side'. Cheers. Kevin
... citizen with five years work experience as a Digital marketing specialist. For the most part, I have been optimistic about this move/finding a job in Ireland as I do strongly believe I possess a skill Set that's in high demand, especially in Dublin, being the tech hub that it is. That said, I am also trying to be realistic and understand that Dublin is extremely expensive and finding a job is no jog in the park. I have some self-employed income, so my plan is to find part-time work in Dublin or wherever, and work for myself the rest of the time. I have appl ...
Hey Nick, Fairly recently, there WAs a change to the rules for pet moves to Ireland. Until that point, pet relocation companies were a requirement, and all pets had to go through Dublin. I've had confirmation from another mover on here, that that is no longer the case. However, if you arrive into Ireland as your first port of entry in to the EU, then you still need to go through the Lissenhall vet check in Dublin.
Aer Lingus, have long been an approved carrier, but generally it's down to the individual airlines whether they will transport pets or not. Vari ...
