Regarding banking, it's pretty limited being non-resident so I think either a standing order or cash is probably my best bet. I don't believe KBC have any branches (they call them 'hubs') where I can withdraw cash from a teller, so am restricted to ATMs and no WAy of getting a cashiers cheque. Hi Giles @manilala and welcome to the site! Great first question! I don't exactly have personal experience with this, as I rented directly from a relative, and did in fact pay cash as a deposit. But it WAs for an amount far less than you mentioned above. Speaking from knowledge of others who have been in your situation, I can safely say you could run into any mix of requests for a deposit i.e bank transfer, cashiers cheque, cash, etc. The least safe is cash, and if you are asked to go that route, be sure to double check who you are handing money over to, ...

Hello, Preparing for our moving to Ireland in February. Just Set up an Irish bank account, and they mentioned we need to start building credit history, and that getting a car loan right away WAsn't likely. More like we'd need to build credit for a year or so before a car loan or mortgage would be possible. Anyone else have experience with that? Is it true? I'm wondering if my US credit history does any good, or if a car dealer will be willing to help you out if you give a good size downpayment. Thanks. Kevin

Hi everyone, My husband and I will be moving to Ireland in a few weeks. We plan to stay at an Airbnb for a while until we get Set up in Dublin. We have an appointment for INIS registration soon after we arrive. My question is: how can we show evidence of our joint address if we are staying at an Airbnb? Would a letter from the owner of the property stating that we are staying there for a month be enough? Or would we have to find permanent accommodation before attending the appointment?
