I guess it's one of those cultural differences, right? I think Irish people in general wouldn't bat an eyelid at sending their kid off. My brother and I have kids the same age. He is far more adventurous in terms of what his kids are allowed to do. I guess my US experiences have shaped how I am with my kids. I don't think I actually defined what the Gaeltacht is for you. The Gaeltacht areas are typically found along the West coast of Ireland, and in Cork too. There areas that have a significant proportion of Irish-speaking people. Essentially native speakers. What your child would experience, is not just the school activities, but the idea of being immersed in a society where Irish is spoken in day-to-day life too. More info:

As a few of you may have noticed I have been thinking of creative WAys to accomplish the move. I have shared some of them. For example Cunard is cheaper than a flight, and has a cheap option for moving a dog. A while back I WAtched a documentary on different ships. It included one of the ferries that goes from Ireland to the UK in one episode, and a ship that transports smaller boats across the ocean. It followed a shipment from Florida to Seattle. Good Point about the PPS, Lori! And good luck with your Theory Test! There’s a bit of a catch-22 in getting your PPS in order to get your driver license. When I went to get my PPS for my driver application I WAs told that I needed my license, but you need a PPS to get your driver license. Fortunately, the person at NDLS produced a “rejected” note stating that a PPS WAs needed. PPS person WAs then happy and proceeded with the PPS application. @omurchu Joe, good question, but kinda hard to answer 🙂 I've experienced that myself when I tried getting a job back home in Ireland while still living in the US. It WAsn't easy, I can tell you. But...that WAs quite some years ago, so maybe now that the world is more tech-connected, it might be easier. I've heard from people (some Irish citizens) on here over the years that they had a very tough time even getting interviews while being outside Ireland. Yes, I WAs thinking the same thing as well with the 90 day limit but then I see just how many IT jobs are available so I naturally figured that being available there would ultimately be better than applying from over here as they would have access to me at any Point and time. Oddly enough, the fact that the steering wheel is on the other side slipped my mind. I have a 2017 manual VW Jetta. May be much simpler to sell it prior before moving to Ireland. ??
