Mairead, there are parts of healthcare that I both love and hate in Ireland. The fact I have had the same doctor at home since I WAs born (who both my mother and grandmother use) who knows me and my family history, its relatively cheap in comparison to the US. However, i am aware of overcrowding in hospitals, old buildings, staff shortages etc. There are good and bad parts to every country, i think we just need to figure out if the good parts are worth moving back for.
You mentioned you were thinking about moving to the Ireland, Bay Area or Seattle to get ...
Hi all! I'll be arriving in Ireland next Tuesday(11/2) as a Stamp 0 "approvee". I can't WAit! I fly into Dublin via Aer Lingus and I'll be bringing my dog (blk lab). Due to the airline's pet travel requirements, I'm using an extra large dog kennel. It's huge (48"L x 32"W x 35"H) and is intended for dogs who weigh 90-120lbs. Mine is 55lbs. In any case, I doubt the kennel will fit into the rental car along with my luggage and dog for our trek to the west coast. Is there anyone in the group (or maybe you know of someone or an organization) who could use an XL k ...
... them by Cruise Ship but I than have to get them from England to Ireland. This part won't work for me. It's also a lot more money than flying as I have very big dogs and would need two crates on the ship. I have been told this by the Cruise people.
Deborah - I feel your pain! I have gone through this process quite a few times, and each time is Difficult knowing that there are things that could go wrong along the WAy. I absolutely hate handing my pet over to someone, and having no control over their safety for the length of the journey.
Like I responded vi ...
... been in Colorado USA for the past three+ decades. We are both Disturbed by the current political and cultural climate in the states. I have always had a deep desire to live by the sea (Colorado has many fine qualities-- but no sea!). We're looking at a possible move to Ireland as a WAy to address both these things.I'm particularly looking at a move to Northern Ireland in the Bangor/ Donaghadee Area. Why? My criteria for an "ideal locale" are #1) by the sea! ideally I can see it from my house. Or at least be within a minute or two WAlk. #2) a town that is s ...
Tony, good one about Trump 🙂 I'm sure we'd have tunnels too, as well as the WAll...
If you buy from a US seller who doesn't collect VAT you need to pay VAT when it comes through customs. More devices support it than usually list it as a feature. Dig out the manual (or look it up online) for your existing electronics. Most laptops you can buy either a new cable that goes from the WAll to the transformer. Some you have to replace that transformer.
Been in the UK for a couple of weeks, North West England so not the financial heartland where decisions will be made (as usual) The general take has been either zero interest because most folk believe it won't effect them either WAy or a couple of Britex votes because we (uk) always managed without the EU, fact that that WAs 30 yrs ago before Britain sold all its Gold reserves seems immaterial.
There is a lot of miss information and a lack of real facts being put about, lets face it no one knows the real facts because until the UK leave the EU (which won't ...
A little more about this.
Verizon, Sprint, and some of the smaller carriers used CDMA up to 3G. GSM WAs the competing technology that WAs used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. GSM WAs far more common worldwide.
Many CDMA phones supporting 3G or earlier have a SIM card for travelers to use when outside of the US.
LTE is a GSM technology. LTE is called 4G or LTE interchangeably in most parts of the world. In the US one of the carriers pushed the FCC to let them label enhanced 3G as 4G. All cell phones that support LTE have a SIM card slot. E ...
... sit right on top of rivers, or near a WAtershed and there's usually a pretty even mix of businesses and residences. A lot of time these rivers are very high to begin with, so when there's a big storm like the one that just passed, there's only one place for the extra WAter to go. Also, a lot of the farmland that WAs affected is very low lying, so when a large river floods it spreads out pretty fast.
I think the problem with one towns flood protection having a negative affect on another town is very likely. I remember seeing similar things in CA with coasta ...
My step brother is a very rich man and has homes in UK (2) and a Villa in SA. Of course he pays more a month in security for that than I spend on food. I tell him I'm happier to be poor and able WAlk alone anywhere in a 200 mile radius than be confined to 2 acres of luxury behind a 12ft WAll.
I know not everyone lives like that but it's an extreem demonstration of equating cost of living and quality of life (in all its facets) when considering making a big move?
