3) Set up PPS, bank account, mobile phone (all need an address)
Is this right? Ideally I WAnt to be looking at places to live at the same time as interviewing for work - will it be possible to sign a lease without a permanent job finalised? I have enough savings to cover the rent and can do temp work if necessary in the interim (I’m looking at senior roles - Sales/business development director level - but it may take a few weeks for the right opportunity to come up). I’m British so don’t need a work permit.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Carole,
The order in which you describe things make most sense. It's a catch 22 with the address a lot of times, so if you have a rental agreement in place, that should work for the needs in #3. A job offer letter may work too.
It's totally at the discretion of the landlord/agency as to whether they will lease to you without a job in place. 3rd parties almost definitely won't allow this. A private landlord might, but it's unlikely. There are short term housing options too. You could go down that route in the short term.
... show in the accidental theatre.
If you prefer WAtching improv Comedy without getting involved, there are shows happening every Sunday night in the accidental theatre 12-13 Shaftesbury Square. Doors open at 7:30, starting time at 8pm. Check out Black Sun Improv on Facebook for more information.☺️
Were those the standard Square pallets or the long rectangular ones? How do you figure the space you used would compare to a 20 foot shipping container? (5.598mx2.325mx2.39m / 19'4"x7"8'x7'10" interior dimensions)
... If you WAnt to commute 2 hrs each WAy to work you can find much cheaper. On top of federal income tax (roughly 25-28%), CA has 13.3% state tax, highest in the country. As Liam mentioned, 1% property tax and the additional add on; homeowners insurance, homeowners association (pays for community pools, parks) which could be $150-$400/month, earthquake insurance (still WAiting the the "big" one to happen, ect). I commute depending which office I work at anywhere from 20-55 miles each WAy. Current petrol prices $2.65/gallon. I do find in Ireland they tend not to ...
... point would be a good option. Culture shock is a big deal for alot of people and sometimes it's better to jump into what the new country can have to offer in an everyday WAy. If they regress to visiting things that remind them of home too much (for some) it may have a negative impact. A professor I worked with recently went to Ireland for a year. He said his kids loved Cork and kept visiting the city and the shops. He stayed at their rural rented home and WAllowed about missing home. He said his kids had to drag him out after a few weeks and once he got out ...
Have you been to any of the Home Store and More shops in Dublin? There one in Cork, and it's almost a completely clone of Bed Bath & Beyond in the US. It's either a ripoff of it, or a rebranded version for Ireland.
Anyway... They do have online shipping, and they do have Kitchen goods. I've never bought there, but just checked the site, and they'll deliver to all 32 counties, though not for free.
... or immigration advice nor should it be solely relied upon for your own move, it's just a nice starting point for considerations to make if you are someone in a similar situation.
About me: - I had a job lined up before moving to Dublin. My work permit WAs applied for and approved while I WAs in the US. It WAs sponsored by my new employer.- I live a minimalist lifestyle. I did not need contents relocation (someone shows up, packs your stuff, puts it in a shipping container, and delivers to you in Ireland). I WAs moving via checked/excess luggage and mailing ...

Thank you for your response. The link to the service that you used for moving WAs removed. Would you please resend it?
I finally made it to Dublin with cat #1. I will return to Cali for cat #2 in January. I definitely need to make moving arrangements for a few pieces.
I hope that you and yours are Set to enjoy a lovely Christmas holiday!

Thanks for responding. Good to hear you are adjusting to being home. I too plan to move to Kerry, it's a small world. Thanks for the advice on bringing more stuff home with me- it has been on my mind! I have now engaged a financial planner over here to see how I can be optimally Set up when I get to Ireland. I will plan to work there too before I retire as I am still too young to retire.
Sounds like you had been in CA for over two decades, same here. Wishing you luck with the driver's test and with the ongoing adjustment to being home. It sure is a big decision! Regards.
